Re: Freezing when accessing network

So, "Accessing an UNC path for the first time takes time", that's worse than some versions ago? With these settings? Hmm, I currently don't see what could make that difference. All the recent changes are tied to "Pre-check availability of servers" AFAIK.

If you are sure about this I will have to add debug code to find out what's going on. Speed rules...

My oldest backup is from ~3 weeks, so I restored my fully configured v20.50.0100 version from it

Relevant settings (catalog is exactly the same):

Code: Select all

[x] Fast network enumeration
[x] Assume that servers are available
[ ] Pre-check availability of servers
[x] Cache network servers

[x] No network browsing on startup
Startup time is fast. First access to an UNC path is instant...
But it has sometimes problems when switching from the tab
with the UNC path to a tab with a local path and back (it takes
a few seconds to get access to the UNC path when switching
back). Like caching isn't in effect or something...

If "Pre-check availability of servers" is off then I don't see any reason for this. (And, of course, it does not happen here.) :|

Is tab switching the only way to cause this delay?

I'm only noticing it when doing it that way (I use no other).
The UNC path is always opened by clicking on the catalog entry

I am not sure if it got worse, but I can generally confirm what highend reports (delay when clicking on a tab with an UNC path). It seems so old, that I got used to it. And it seems not to be the same for all UNC paths, so maybe some network peculiarities play a role here. Debug code would be welcome, I would say - next week I too could test this.

Yes, for me too, wow! (Only when accessing UNC for the first time in a session, there is a bit longer delay, I would say. But so it was before too.) Thanks!!

The behavior is back

Currently on v20.60.0010, same settings as always

Code: Select all

[x] Fast network enumeration
[x] Assume that servers are available
[ ] Pre-check availability of servers
[x] Cache network servers

[x] No network browsing on startup
Can't say if it happened in an earlier version as well but noticed the hangup on tab switching
already 4 times today...

Did not change anything. Well, I'll add some debug logging...

K, I'll happily provide a log once it happens again (with a new beta).

I guess it's normal that the first access is slow after waking up from STR (suspend to ram)?
Probably windows that refreshes it's network cache...

Some logging is present in v20.60.0101 but I want to improve it. Question: Does it affect UNC only, or also mapped?

I've mapped that UNC path to a drive letter and once it happens again...

That didn't take long... Was in the browser, back to XY, clicked on the Z: drive tab (mapped drive for the UNC path) -> Freeze...

Code: Select all

I think it's normal that it's slow on the first time. There is nothing I can do about that.

I'll add better logging to the next beta to pinpoint who is waiting for what.
