Strange Thumbnail Behaviour

Post by FKF5482 »

I've recently encountered this strange behaviour when im creating a new folder inside a folder that contains a lot of folder thumbnails. When i create a new folder all the thumbnail folders become yellow (without thumbnails) and xyplorer needs to rebuild them from the start. This seems to happen at random but often enough to be really annoying.

As always thanks in advance.

Please show the page of the Configuration dialog. This will help reproducing it.

Thanks. Almost the same as mine. Alas, I cannot reproduce it. :| That means I cannot do much now.

Hello again, since i 've last posted about this strange thumbnail behaviour i noticed that it happens when the folders are named in a way like mentioned in this topic :

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20364

I 've created 40 new folders inside a folder that contained a lot of folders with the naming scheme mentioned in the above
post just to test and the bug happened 12 times, forcing all the folder thumbnails to be created from scratch.

I hope this helps a bit to pin point the bug :)

As always thanks in advance.

Can you attach a non-TinyPic screenshot that shows the situation with those folders?

Hello again and sorry for the late reply.

I was able to reproduce it so i'm hoping you will too.

Example 1:

1) Create a folder and name it "TEST SUB FOLDER"

2) Create 10-15 folders in it with thumbnails. Save the folder views for all of them (im using 136x136).

3) Create a folder named "[Kalo-ena (kales photo)] Arxikes omorfies", throw a picture in it and save the folder view.

4) Create a folder named "[Kalo-ena (kales photo)] ypsiles! - mystikes eksodoi" and press enter. The moment you press enter all the folder thumbnails
will become yellow (like when a folder is empty). Some times xyplorer will start recreating them all and sometimes they will stay yellow until you change location and return or if you manually refresh them.

*[Kalo-ena (kales photo)] Arxikes omorfies and [Kalo-ena (kales photo)] ypsiles! - mystikes eksodoi are on the same level. Both are subfolders of the TEST SUB FOLDER.

Example 2:

1) Create a folder named "bla bla 1" throw a picture in it and save the folder view.

2) Create a folder named "bla bla 2" and the moment you press enter the strange behaviour will happen again.

3) Now if you continue and then copy another pic inside the "bla bla 2" folder, save the folder view for it and then create "bla bla 3" it will happen again.

I've created up to folder "bla bla 7" and it happened with all of them.

After i've managed to reproduce the bug i deleted all the folders and the folder views for all of them and created them all from the beginning with the same names, even the same pics for each folder and the bug didn't happen again. However when i tried the same procedure on a fresh portable XYplorer with only my settings imported the bug appeared. Strange to say the least.

I wasn't sure what picture you wanted me to upload but im guessing you meant my thumbnail settings but if i'm wrong please let me know.

As always thanks in advance :)

Could it be that this is ticked: Configuration | General | Sort and Rename | Rename | Use dialog to rename single items ?

Well, I cannot reproduce it. This is the situation right after creating and naming the folder "[Kalo-ena (kales photo)] ypsiles! - mystikes eksodoi". This is when it should have happened, right?

Yes you did it correctly, this is really strange. I really don't know what to think.

I did some more testing and what i ve found is that on a fresh xyplorer installation the bug its not happening, however when i'm importing my settings the bug is there, so the logical conclusion is that there is something "strange" with my settings-configuration.

Use my xyplorer.ini on a fresh xyplorer and please repeat the procedure you tried already.

Thanks for your time and effort :)

I tried your INI but the result is the same: no problem.

1) Are you using the latest version?

2) How exactly do you create the new folder?

Im using XYplorer 20.40.0000 Portable

A) Ctrl + N then i press esc

B) im copying the name for the folder, for example [Kalo-ena (kales photo)] Arxikes omorfies

C) then im clicking on the folder to select it and then im pressing F2 to rename

D) then i paste the name for the folder

E) and finally im pressing enter to register it , and thats when the bug happens

Same here. :|

Is that the Greek regional? Maybe some characters are interpreted differently...
