Thumbnails don't seem to generate automatically in a folder with a a lot of images in 20.10 unless you leave the tab and go back to it.

Cannot find anything unusual here. Works as always. And I did not change the thumbnails code for a long time.

There are many factors that can play a role here. So, do you experience the same in a fresh installation? (Just run fresh; through the address bar to create one on the fly...)

I am using 20.20 and it does not make thumbnails properly. I have checked every setting and the program does not create all thumbnails in a folder as it has in the past. I have to scroll the list to eventually get thumbnails created.

I went back to 20.00 and it creates thumbnails as expected.

You mean you have missing thumbnails in the current view?

With apology, I was not clear. I do not use tabs, just a single view with default display to detail list. When I switch to thumbnails I expect all thumbnails will be created at once and/or updated and displayed (I cache thumbnails.) When I upgraded to 20.20, the thumbnails are not created at once nor updated. If there are more thumbnails than can be displayed on one screen, XY will make up to 25 thumbnails then quit making them. Scrolling the list will make thumbnails only for the images somewhat in focus. I can scroll to the end of the list and those thumbnails will be created, but all of the images skipped by the scroll will not be created. Version 20.00 works as expected.

I hope this explanation is somewhat clear and helpful.

Update: I dug through backups and 20.00 works but 20.00.0015 is "broken."

The only recent change that could be relevant here happened in v20.00.0005 - 2019-05-25 11:32: If that's true then v20.00.0004 should work for you, and v20.00.0005 should not.

Still cannot reproduce the issue. Could you show a screenshot? This often helps...

I'm having the same issue as m48tx as far as my thumbnails not being created all at once though the setting is checked in Configuration. I'm on vacation taking a ton of pictures and transferring them from my camera SD cards to my laptop. I'm making new sub folders setup by day under the main folder I've copied the pictures to. When I move the pictures to the new sub folders, XY stops creating the thumbnails after a page or more but never them all as m48tx mentioned. I'm not scrolling and I'm letting XY do its thing but it still doesn't create them all.

Yet if I simply copy a ton of pictures (e.g., 80 pics or more) to a temp folder, XY seems to be creating the thumbnails all at once as it should. Odd but something is not quite right.

So, the problem is that "Configuration | Preview | Thumbnails | Create all thumbnails at once" does not work anymore?

Well, turns out that "Create all thumbnails at once" really didn't work anymore. But as it looks from the code this deplorable state must have been even older. Anyway, I fixed that now.

Thanks for looking into it. I noticed issues with "create all at once" a few weeks ago, but I wasn't able to nail it down and didn't have the time to investigate. When I saw today others were experiencing problems I figured I'd pipe in as well.

Like klownboy, I did not notice anything different as I have had no new images to thumbnail for a while. But I did have a group of new images after installing 20.20 and noticed the difference. So, I did not catch when things broke after installing the updates to 20.00. The only update I found in my backups is 20.00.0015 which is why I mentioned it. So backtracking, 20.00 worked as expected. When I installed 20.00.0015 it broke. I actually took a couple of my machines back to 19.90.0100 (downloaded from the freezer) and I swear it is quicker creating thumbnails than 20.00+. I installed 20.20.0001 on my primary system last night to experiment. I found that if I "refresh thumbnails" XY will create all thumbnails at once. So, I go to folder, XY creates a limited number of thumbnails, I hit refresh and all thumbnails are created. Thanks for looking into this, Don.
