Double click on file name fails to open

Post by coachbkst »

After years of using XY with no problems, double-clicking on a file name now will not open it. Started about a week ago.

DClicking on pptx puts black vertical bar in pane on left side of vertical scroll bar. DClicking on PDF does open, on MS Word may or may not. Single click on any file icon will open it (after I checked that feature). DClicking works on same files on MS Windows Explorer.

"...black vertical bar in pane on left side of vertical scroll bar..." :? Do you have a screenshot of that?

What happens if you open those files via context menu?

Please see attached for a screen snapshot of the black vertical bars that appear when double-clicking on a Powerpoint file.

Not sure what you mean by a "context menu". I'm assuming you mean the menu resulting from a right click on the file. Choosing Open in that menu opens the file, as does a single click on the file icon at the beginning of the file name. Interestingly, the app opens in the "reduced window" mode.

Double-click does not work for Word, PDF (rarely), and most other files, but the right-click/Open and single click on the icon does.

Double-click does work on these files in Windows Explorer.

Okay, looks like you inadvertently opened the Preview Pane. To close it untick Window | Show Preview Pane (Ctrl+F11). This should fix your problem.

Good. Just FYI, you can widen that Preview Pane by dragging the splitter on its left side to make it actually useful. :)
