Removing removable drives

Post by oblivion »

I have an external HDD that I use primarily for backups.

Since XYplorer 19.10, attempts to dismount the drive for removal fail until I've unloaded XYPlorer. (This used to be normal if I had a view of the drive open in XYPlorer; I'd just navigate away and minimise again. Now, XY seems to hold onto the drive even when minimised and if the drive hasn't been accessed through XY during the session.)

This is 64-bit Windows 10, current version (1803). (OS: Windows 10 Windows 8, 64-bit, Release 1803, Build 17134.165)

You can try this recent tweak to see if it helps, at least as a troubleshooting step:

Code: Select all

v19.10.0004 - 2018-07-13 14:53
    + Portable Devices: Added tweak WatchDevices, factory default is 1 (= ON).
      It controls whether XYplorer reacts on messages sent out by Windows when
      USB devices or Portable Devices are plugged in or out. On some Windows 10
      systems there seems to be an abundance of such messages leading to
      frequent (mostly unnecessary) refreshes of the tree. You can stop this now
      by tweaking:
        WatchDevices=0
for instructions on how to tweak:

Is that external HDD a portable device (has NO drive letter) or a normal drive (has drive letter)?
