EDIT: The problem seems to be caused by the (default) option of (in one on the many menu) 'use Windows theme' . .

It's a combination of
Menu - Tools - Customize List - Full Row Select
and
Configuration | Colors and Styles | Styles | Selections = Windows Theme Style
that causes this...
