A while ago a quite annoying bug/change got introduced where "drag & drop" only works on blank areas of the files pane.
Tested with a No Install RAR with default unchanged settings:
- The last version I have that doesn't have this bug is: 17.50.0200
- The first version I have with the bug is: 18.20.0100 (No Install)
- I skipped upgrading a few versions so I'm not sure at which version the change occurred.
In the past you could drop wherever you wanted in the files pane.
Now you have to either drop on a blank area without filenames text or on a picture thumbnail.
Which can be impossible with long filenames taking up all space so there's no blank area to drop or you have to change views.
Dropping where there's text of a filename or a thumbnail like from an .url won't work either and you get the striked through circle cursor.
[Mod annotation: Changed the title from "black" to "blank"]
Drag & Drop only works on blank areas of the files pane
Re: Drag & Drop only works on blank areas of the files pane
Cannot reproduce this behavior. v18.20.0100 (noinstall, fresh instance) works fine
when dragging <something> (from other pane or from outside of XYplorer) onto
a filename in a pane...
A video to show that (I'm pressing ESC at the end to abort the drag and drop...

Re: Drag & Drop only works on blank areas of the files pane
Did just a quick test, and I can confirm:
I can only drop an whitespace or on the very first file in the second pane!
EDIT: both panes had folders open in the same drive! (so the file will be moved)
On different drives, I have the same behaviour as highend! (copying a file)

Strangely enough as chincherpa says, drag and drop works:
- If the file comes from a different drive, then you can drop anywhere.
- If the file is from the same drive, then you can only drop on the first file.
(Sorry for the repost, I didn't notice you could attach files)
Re: Drag & Drop only works on blank areas of the files pane
Code: Select all
v17.60.0006 - 2017-02-26 16:13
* List: In Search Results & Branch View, dragging a non-root file onto
another non-root file moved file to root folder of search/branch. This was
rather confusing. It will not happen anymore. Now for moving a file to the
root you have to drag it onto the empty space.
Holding ctrl (copy) / shift (move) while dragging enables these methods on
all entries (and not only the first one) in later versions but copying isn't invoked
like it's supposed to be because it will not create another copy but asks to
overwrite a file instead.
These settings are not able to correct the behavior
Configuration | Other | Shell Integration | Drag and Drop | Use standard shell drag and drop -> On or off
Configuration | Other | Shell Integration | Drag and Drop | Default action on drag and drop to same drive -> Copy
