Out of memory error attempting to copy files

I have a directory with 1,000,000 Files (created for some performance-tests of software that I'm working on). Unfortunately this also turns out to be a performance-test for XY, because performance really degrades when opening such a beast. When I then tried to copy all files to another dir,I was presented with this:

Well, you hit a ceiling there that I cannot remove. The sky. At least it did not crash but popped a graceful message.

No prolem - I'm using Windows Explorer to copy these (23hrs to go!!) - fortunately my regular file-operations are in much smaller directories...;-)
