PGP Desktop context menus not appearing

Post by debriw »

I have PGP Desktop 10.4.1 64-bit installed on my laptop along with 18.30 XYplorer. The PGP Desktop adds a context menu to Windows explorer for encrypting and decrypting files (it does a few other things as well, but those are the ones I'm concerned with). When I right-click in XYplorer I don't see the context menu for Symantec Encryption Desktop while if I am in Windows Explorer it is there and working.

I tried to see if there was some way to get the same menu to show up by running through some of the menu options, but I couldn't see any way to get it to work. Is there something I can do to get it added? This is annoying for an otherwise great setup. I can see other app context menus are added (for example 7-zip), but I'm missing the PGP one.

Any suggestions?

Temporarily show it:

Permanently:
viewtopic.php?p=149777#p149777
Enable that setting

Sorry for the delay in responding to this, but this doesn't work. When 64-bit is unchecked, I don't see it. When I do select it, I don't get ANY right-click menus at all. The PGP install is 64-bit, as I said, but I have no idea what is going on in this case.

When I click the Show 64-bit Context Menu I get a spinning cursor and then nothing. If I right-click again on the file, I get only the 32-bit menu. If I select the permanent 64-bit menu option, I don't get any right-click menu.

Type

Code: Select all

fresh;
into the address bar and hit the enter key afterwards

Do you get the same problem with the new instance?

Activate this option:
Configuration | Menus, Mouse, Safety | Context Menus | Hide shell extensions from shell context menu

Just tell me if you get the 64-bit context menu afterwards (no, it won't display any of your installed
applications there but it should at least display properly).

If that option leads to a now working 64-bit context menu, deactivate that option again and follow
these instructions:

01. Get the correct ShellExView version (x86 or x64) from
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html

02. Make sure that "Options - Show 32-bit Shell Extensions"
is enabled

03. Optionally enable "Options - Hide All Microsoft Extensions"
to reduce the number of entries. Normally they are not the
cause for any shell extension failures

04. Click on the "Type" column header to get a new sort order
We are only interested in entries with the type "Context Menu"
from now on!

05. Disable each item with the "Context Menu" type one after
another ("Menu - File - Disable Selected Items" / Right
click on an entry to get the context menu / Press "F7")
and after disabling one, switch back to XYplorer and
invoke the right click (64-bit) context menu again

When it is displayed correctly, you found the shell
extension that causes XYplorer's context menu to
malfunction...

The hide option didn't make the 64-bit menus show up. Should I proceed with the other one anyway to see if something there is the problem?

You can do that (in that case don't disable them one by one, but just all context menu
type entries all together) but I don't have much hope that this will fix the problem
(normally using that option inside XY should be enough)...

Yeah, that didn't work. I only had 2 things for context menu (one of them being 7-zip) and disabling them didn't solve the issue.

So to follow up on this, it is now actually worse (not sure what happened), but there are no context menus for anything. Before I had 7-zip and a few others, but now I don't have anything, and I still can't get the 64-bit menus to show up if I click that option.

I have upgraded to the latest 18.50 and it didn't change anything (this started on the 18.30 and I had hoped an upgrade could clear out the issue), but it did not.

Thanks. I guess I missed that after playing around trying to get the PGP menus.
