[INVALID] Reset search filters doesn't remove the Excluded paths

Post by Leito »

Using the "Find Files" panel (Ctrl+F), when clicking on the "Reset Filters" button, the list of files and folders under the Excluded tab is not emptied. However, the tab mark is reset (blue font becomes black again).

See in action:

Totally okay. You would not want to lose your definitions on a reset.

I can't say if you're being sarcastic or not.

Ok, in that case:
  • Why isn't the "Excluded" text still in blue?
  • Why would they be the only filter not reset?
EDIT: oops, maybe I've not been clear. By "filters" in my previous posts, I mean all the definitions of the Find function (all tabs : Name & Location, Size, Date, Attributes...)

Blue text means the filter is enabled. Reset disables all filters.

Oohh interesting... That isn't what I guessed. So maybe the bug is the contrary from what I reported? Why are other tabs definition emptied when clicking "Reset Filters" ?

Yes, that is a deliberate difference in handling. Simply said I think the way it is now is the best for most users. In most tabs the fully-reset state is the best starting point for setting up a fresh search. But in Excluded folders it's different. Most of the time this is a global setting that you want to have in all your searches. AFAIK in earlier versions this filter was not even disabled on Reset.

Sometimes it's interesting how things are in XYplorer, since they are shaped by long time experience of many users rather than by puristic ideas of a single developer brain. IMO this is typical for matured tools, also in the real world. You may wonder why this lever has this funny shape, but it's a result of centuries of usage by human hands (which by themselves are even much older tools with funny shapes, that are fantastically multi-functional).

Alright, I understand the difference and that's fine by me. I'll know what to expect now! :)

Thanks for clarifying.
