Hi,
Have just tried to install 17.9. Afterwards the app would try to start, as evidenced by the changed appearance of the app icon in my toolbar (gets surrounded by a rectangle). Then after a few seconds the rectangle disappears, and the app window never appears.
I have since tried installing 17.8 and this works fine. I noticed on subsequent attempts to install 17.9 that the final window shown by the installer, where there is a checkbox to allow the installer to start the app, does not appear, as if the installer is failing prematurely.
17.9 won't work - install problem?

Can't reproduce, v17.90.0400 installer works fine here...

Is that a fresh virgin install, or on top of a previous one?

Ok that's interesting. Bitdefender was blocking certain files which was causing the problem.
Have unblocked (!) and all seems well...

Bitdefender blocks files during installation without notifying you about it? That's what I callbobfleming wrote:Ok that's interesting. Bitdefender was blocking certain files which was causing the problem.

But good to know.

Re: 17.9 won't work - install problem?
Well I wouldn't say it definitely didn't warn me before. I eventually noticed a small, brief bitdefender popup which may well have been occurring all the time and I just didn't notice.
I'd be interested to know why bitdefender thinks 17.9 is risky but 17.8 is not.

Virus detection is a lottery at best. They are dumb-scanning files for suspicious patterns, and they follow an aggressive warning policy: better too often than too less. In dubio pro panic.
You should simply exclude XY from the scanning. (This will also make it faster.) Unless you think I'm so crazy to pack a virus into the work that pays my bills...
