Incorrect reporting of free space left

Post by DeeLight »

XYplorer is reporting incorrect free space left for Junctions & Symbolic Links locations.

For example, if drive P: has (255.65 GB free), P:\Junction (pointing to O:\Source) will still show (255.65 GB free) instead of whatever free space is on the O: drive.

Windows Explorer shows the correct free space for those Junctions & Symbolic Links

Is that a bug? IMO it's a decision. Junctions are chimeras...

It seems like a bug. If for example, P: drive has almost no free space, but O: has plenty, if I want to copy a big file/folder into P:\Junction, even though there is enough space since it's on the O: drive, it's gonna show the almost no free space of the P: drive.

It's seems to me, the free space reported should be for currently selected location (like Windows Explorer), and not current drive.

Right now, I have to manually verify with Windows Explorer when I'm about to copy/move large amount of files.

I was looking for this in Explorer (Win8.1) but did not find it. Where does Explorer show this?

Status bar needs to be enabled

1st window: Regular folder
2nd window: Junction to a folder on a local drive
3rd window: Symbolic link to a folder on a NAS

All reporting the actual free space for their location and not the drive.

Thanks. I don't see this here in Win8.1 but I can and will make it happen in XY anyway. I agree now that it makes sense.

Hmm, I just noticed this:

Code: Select all

v17.90.0111 - 2017-05-10 08:17
    * Status Bar: Free-space-left for junctions & symbolic links was reported
for the original drive of the junctions & symbolic links. Now it's done
      for their target drive.
I have 17.19.0300 installed, and it's still not reporting the size for the target, but of the current drive... any option I need to enable for this to work? Or do I need to wait for a new official version?

Same locations in same order, all reporting 12.10 GB free.

1st window: Regular folder [Correctly reporting 12.10 GB]
2nd window: Junction to a folder on a local drive [Incorrect, should show 2.46 TB]
3rd window: Symbolic link to a folder on a NAS [Incorrect, should show 3.26 TB]

Also, just to make sure, I also tested in XYplorer on the computer where that drive is local (instead of a network drive), and same reporting of 12.10 GB free for all 3 locations.

Ah, now I see it. You mean the left section of the statusbar! I only did it for the right section. Sorry about that, next version will have that.
