Not responding issues

Post by fedup »

I have XPplorer 17.70 and have noticed that when I click on its short cut it takes approx 8 seconds before it appears. System is Windows7 Pro w 5GB of memory. A more serious issue is that I have frequently seen XYplorer saying Not Responding. The latest occurrence is when I selected 440 pictures on my cellphone via USB cable. I want to wipe out XYplorer completely and start from square one as the application is not much use the way it is now

Before you wipe your whole config...

Execute this script (e.g. from the address bar) and post the output:

Code: Select all

text get("loadtimes");

8 seconds is surely network. Tick this:
Configuration | Startup & Exit | No network browsing on startup

OK that reduced the start up time to 3 seconds. However not responding issues are still an issue. Regarding the copying photos from my old phone I wound up copying them via Windows explorer to a temporary folder on my hard drive and then over to my other phone. When I tried to use XYplorer to copy them from my old phone to the new one XYplorer timed out as soon as I selected the 400+ files on my old phone.

My not responding issue is not related to something in my XYPlorer.ini file. I renamed it started up the app and XYplorer went to 30 day trial mode. It also went into Not Responding when I selected the 400+ JPGs on my phone and either did a right mouse click or simply tried dragging the files over to another tab in order to copy them off the phone.

This is not an endless hang. MTP (the protocoll used by Windows to communicate with portable devices) is just slow.

Actually it can become an endless hang so much so that I have to use Task Manager to terminate XYPlorer task. This also happens when I rename my XYPlorer.ini file and place the app into 30 day trial mode or if it is using my INI and configuration information. If I have split dual panes with the phone in one pane and the destination folder on my hard drive in the other pane, do a CTL-A on the phone pane and drag the files over to the empy destination pane the app just sits there.

I tried another lite file explorer app and it had no issues copying these files from the phone to the same test directory on my hard drive.

OK, MTP is not a strong point of XY. You can add this as a "Con" at Slant if you like.

SIgh I don't know if I buggered something up but XYplorer is totally unusable copying these files off the phone. I drag and drop all the files into the destination directory and nothing happens. It then gets an hour glass and sits and sits and nothing happens. I even went and uninstalled the app completely and reinstalled it from scratch. No difference.

Sorry, not sure I understand. What did you do to make it crash?
