XYplorer keeps crashing :(

Getting this often. v17.30. I think it's happening often and at random when I close the program. Is there a debug version I can run to see what's going on? :(

It happens only when you close the program?

Yes, it's not reproducible 100% because it happens at random. I actually reset my Xyplorer and re-tuned slightly not too long ago too. It's very annoying to say the least.

I think my #1 concern with XYplorer at this point is not new features or interface -- it's stability. I have a unimaginable amount of respect for you admin for creating this wonderful gem of software, but I would recommend hammering the bugs out. :[

Is there anything I can do other than looking at patterns to try and help fix the bug?

For starters I would recommend you tick this:
Configuration | Menus, Mouse, Safety | Context Menus | Hide shell extensions from shell context menu

OK, thanks for trying.

So you still can sometimes a crash when closing XY. Could it be related with using Help or not? In other words, does it only crash when you pressed F1 during the session?

I didn't press F1 during session at all.

It might be connected to Save Settings. What if you select menu File | Save Settings? Crash?

Just tried this about 73 times back to back and no crash.

Please know admin that I use ALT + F4 when closing XYplorer. Don't know if that helps?

Maybe that's a hint. I never do this.

Just saw (remembered) that ALT + F4 is a Windows standard key for closing the foreground window. It is also assigned to "Exit (Saving)" in XY. So there is a double assignment which might cause the trouble. You can remove XY's internal ALT + F4 via Tools | Customize Keyboard Shortcuts... (Shift+F9), and then ALT + F4 (via Windows) will still do the same job. Try it, maybe this is the solution!

Hi admin,
I made the changes you requested and will report back either way. Give me at least a week to be thorough :)

OK, here's the thing. I tried to defect to Q-Dir, but honestly XYplorer is the best :)

Xyplorer continues to crash even though I started with fresh install and re-tuned.

I have decided to go to a completely 100% fresh portable install and use that instead in testing for the crash. If it does crash, that means it is an XYplorer problems. I must say the default install is much much faster on opening using Hotkey (ALT+X) I use via Eventghost to launch Xyplorer. I think it has something to do with the network folder I put in my favorites, but can't be sure.

It starts faster on a Hotkey than otherwise? Hard to believe. :eh:

And remember to hide shell extensions to better isolate the issue.

Without question it is faster, although it is a split second difference. Believe me, the way I use XYplorer, that half second is like an eternity.

This is really great software. I am going to re-explore the whole thing again and see what I've missed over the years. I love that it's portable and stealth.

Thank you admin for all your hard work on it. <3 U!
