drive appears twice

Addendum:
After unplugging the stick (previously removed by the small windows tray icon for inserted external drives),
it went even worse...

If it matters: The drive letter the usb-stick got after inserting was: "E:\"...

Now the C:\ drives shows entries that ONLY exist on the D:\ drive and it produces double entries as well:

Although I could not reproduce it there is a chance that a bug fix from yesterday is related to this. Please try the next beta.

it happened again to me, quite bad this time.
it happens many times during the week, but i just restart and its fine.

today i was dealing with many SD cards, external HDD. ejecting etc.
and then i had to delete some folder in my user profile (User\Downloads\something).
and BAM

here is the screenshot:

what highend wrote on 27 Sep 2017 04:29 is basically the same thing i have been experiencing for months.
i guess i never mentioned, that entries from i.e. D:\ drive sometimes are shown under C:\
The bug I posted yesterday was on XYplorer 18.50. Just saw there is an Update to 18.50.0100 (installing it now).

@admin i know, all this is probably not much help for you. so this is just for documentation. hopefully at some
point there will be enough information to finally fix it.

as a fellow software engineer, it looks like some references/counters are mixed up. there is probably some "folder clean-up"
code for when you eject a drive or delete a folder. the fact that my external drives sometimes show-up twice, is VERY most-likey
connected to all this mess. if there is only 10 folder and 3 drivers, making it 13 items total, but 1 drive is shown twice, you have 14 items in the view, but only 13 real items. at the end of the day, somewhere, you'll use the wrong number (14) and it will screw up everything. just my guess :-)

The fix in one of the later betas didn't help here as well and I have
had this behavior since I can remember (ok, as we all know that
time isn't very long )

Maybe you can add a log option what exactly is done to the (in my case:
locked mini) tree when a refresh due to inserting or removing
an external device is happening?

If this would be the case I would have you bothered with it since years...
No.

Restarting XY, inserting the same device again, removing it: No tree
garbage.

No. It was just an insert / remove operation without any
tab change at all just to see if the new beta changes something.

And you are using Windows Server 2012, right? Should correspond to my Win8.1 so why can't I reproduce this??? (rhetorical question)

BTW, I'm plugin in and out all day long every day and I never saw this.

Might be some setting. So: Can you make it happen with a fresh install?

While inserting and removing the same stick several times after another
and having a fresh instance on top of my normal one, mine got the
garbage tree once while the fresh was unaffected.

What is clearly visible: Mine refreshed the locked mini tree (the whole tree
vanishes for a split second when the device is inserted / removed
and then it is redrawn) while the fresh version doesn't do this.

Which setting is responsible for this?

There is no such setting. I think what you see/don't see is an artefact from a complex run condition. I also sometimes see it and sometimes not, but I NEVER get duplicated items in the tree.

I changed some other thing in the meantime, next beta...

PS: Just to make sure: It does not go away when you scroll the tree a bit? (Then it would just be a missing refresh in the drawing...)

All items in my mini tree are fully visible, no scrolling required. When I'm back tomorrow I'll make the window smaller to see if it helps...

Neither of these do help. That change to the tree is permanent
even when the tree is scrolled or un- / and refocused.

Fix #2 doesn't fix the problem. At least mine.
