Thanks for the report. Can't do much though since this simply fails to happen here. :| I keep an eye open, of course.

Often happens when plugging USB drives: thumb and external HDDs.

Weird. I do this all the time and it never happens here. :?

this has never been solved by the way, some months ago, it actually became worse.

i think when xyplorer runs for a few hours, and you attach/detach some USB devices and then later try to delete a random folder on your non-removeable drives like C:\, it will delete that folder, but will leave some zombie thing in the tree list, see screenshot. sometimes F5 refresh will help and it goes away, sometimes it becomes even worse and you need to restart xyplorer.

Never seen a drive appearing twice but I've seen disappearing folders very often.

Maybe it's related...

Happens with a locked mini tree here and at least I guess when I add or remove
external drives / usb sticks. No additional tools (like USBDLM) are running in
the background. Never been able to find a scenario that is 100% reproducible, though...

But Jacksun's tree does not seem to be locked, so that's not a necessary factor.

Whatever, I plug in/out USB devices often and it never happens here. Mystery. :?

Does it disappear when you scroll the tree (IOW: is it just a drawing glitch)?

Not in my case, because the entries in the mini tree are fully visible (using this on purpose)

i dont think i am using "locked mini tree" (dont know what it is)

i dont think its a scrolling issue... it appears right after the folder is deleted (affter confirm dialog).
i think sometimes scrolling does make it worse though (i.e. everything becomes mis-aligned because 1 item is a ghost)

Would it help if i send you my config export?

edit:
i have a ghost filter enabled with ~10 items in there. btw i love things thing, its so awesome to hide away stuff easily. i cant praise it enough. imagine amazon or ebay would have a ghost filter, where you could easily hide PERSISTENTLY unwanted products, manufactors, sellers... the world would me so much better.
anyway, i have "show hidden files" but no system files (i think), i dont use any fancy features or plugins/scripts

If you re-create the deleted folder and then delete it again -- does it happen again then?

i managed to entirely mess up the folder tree this time.
i had a phone plugged in and it was showing up as a portable device whatever.
and my external HDD (which was shown twice as most of the time, btw both E:\ seem to work)
i unplugged the phone and later the HDD, deleted one folder and it totally messed up everything in the folder tree.
first there was a huge space after the last drive at the bottom, so you had to scroll up a bit to see your folders again,
once you scrolled, it immidiatly "fixed" the empty space. but it was still messed up. 1 folder was selected twice now.
see the "tags" folder is shown twice and selected twice, but it only exists once..
some of the folder hierarchy was also shown twice, but under C:\. There is no "Videos" on C:\. The Videos is from the User Dir.
so its totally messed up. i pressed F5 and it became worse, see 2nd screenshot.

I dont think I am alone, see this post:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17212

i am probably a more advanced user, yes, if thats what you meant with highend?

I am running Windows 8.1 with classic shell, no other tweaks or customizations.
xyplorer has also mostly basic settings, i didnt spend much time tweaking it...

OK, you are not alone. (BTW, "highend" is the name of another user here).

Still, I need a way to reproduce it. Did you already answer this question?
If you re-create the deleted folder and then delete it again -- does it happen again then?

Just got the problem again (current beta)...

Locked mini tree, fully visible
Only one tab open, locked location, locked home zone with an active visual filter

Code: Select all

"|Papierkorb" !"$recycle.bin"|"system volume information"|"desktop.ini"
Plugged in a 8GB USB 2 stick, FAT32 formatted

I saw the tree refreshing and then the C:\ drive entries went from this:
original.png
original.png (33.73 KiB) Viewed 3188 times
to this:
crumbled.png
crumbled.png (29.66 KiB) Viewed 3188 times
I do NOT use any software at all, that listens for drive changes (like USBDLM)...

There is one thing that I can say for sure:
Whenever XY does this it ONLY removes items in the C:\ drive (or in other words:
the first one in the tree). It does NEVER happen to entries in the D:\ drive.

For some reason the refreshment of the tree entries is failing, when XY captures
an <drive was inserted> event from Windows...
