Aha, I feared that. :wink: Now I know, it's definitely my fault that it does not work elsewhere...

Anybody with a fujitsu siemens notepad out there, who can reproduce the touchpad scroll bug (= it does not scroll in XY)? I ask because I can get hold of one to do some testing.

Thanks, but for this sort of issue it is so much more convenient to work directly on the machine.

It turned out that the fujitsu siemens has no problems with touchpad scrolling, so it's an insular synaptics issue.

Question: when you place your cursor directly over the file List scrollbar -- does touchpad scrolling work then?

Not for me.

This might be worth noting, though:

1. With the Windows Aero theme, scrollbars subtlety change color when they are hovered over. In essence, it shows that the scrollbar has focus.
2. When I move my pointer over the scrollbar, it changes to "focussed" color as described above, but...
3. While I scroll with the touchpad, that color changes back to the non-focussed color.
4. As soon as I stop touchpad scrolling (while still on top of the scrollbar), the hover focus color returns.
5. I do not observe this unfocussing when scrolling directly over the scrollbars of other applications (Firefox, for example).

This could be a red herring, of course. But, who knows? :)

Yes, this kind of stuff can be very valuable -- but this time it does not click with me (if that is English).

Not on my asus.

When trying to scroll the laptop displays a scroll symbol (a small vertical bar with two arrowheads and an arrow cursor pointing obliquely to the bar's center), but no scrolling occurs. Apparently the scroll signal is detected but not acted on. This happens anywhere on the screen, including on Windows bars, if xyplorer is the active application. With other applications (Firefox) that scroll symbol does not come up in Windows bars, and scrolling happens where it is expected.

Hah! I get the same "scrolling" pointer. It's kind of ironic, really; in applications where the touchpad scroll works, no scrollbar icon is shown - in XY it does appear (but there is no scrolling!). :)

:) Indeed, mysterious. When you search for "synaptics touchpad scroll message" you'll see lots of problems everywhere. They have chosen some unconventional way that apparently works with conventional controls but not with XY's unconventional (owner-drawn) controls. So I'm in the bad position to have to understand what's really going on in that touchpad, and this information is surprisingly hard to get.

Here's a little test app that might help:
http://www.xyplorer.com/download/Scroll ... niffer.zip
Try to scroll (touchpad/wheel) the top-left control and see what messages are coming in...

Here's what I got from my Synaptics T/P:

10:12:28 AM  hWnd=807FC	uMsg=  21 wParam=   807FC lParam= 2010007
10:12:30 AM  hWnd=807FC	uMsg=  21 wParam=   807FC lParam= 2010007

10:12:38 AM  hWnd=807FC	uMsg=  21 wParam=   807FC lParam= 2010001
10:12:38 AM  hWnd=807FC	uMsg= 135 wParam=260108BF lParam=   70798
10:12:38 AM  hWnd=807FC	uMsg= 135 wParam=260108BF lParam=   70798
10:12:46 AM  hWnd=807FC	uMsg=  21 wParam=   807FC lParam= 2010001
10:12:57 AM  hWnd=807FC	uMsg=  21 wParam=   807FC lParam= 2010001
10:13:00 AM  hWnd=807FC	uMsg=  21 wParam=   807FC lParam= 2010001
10:13:05 AM  hWnd=807FC	uMsg=  21 wParam=   807FC lParam= 2010001
10:13:05 AM  hWnd=807FC	uMsg= 135 wParam=260108BF lParam=   707BC
10:13:05 AM  hWnd=807FC	uMsg= 135 wParam=260108BF lParam=   707BC
10:13:05 AM  hWnd=807FC	uMsg= 135 wParam=260108BF lParam=   707BC
10:13:05 AM  hWnd=807FC	uMsg= 135 wParam=B8010B6F lParam=   707BC
The first 2010007 are from the standard box; the others are from the text box. The Umsg 135/111 are from clicking on Copy, etc.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

I am getting the same messages displayed by Scrotty.

In the upper left box Delta switches between 1 and -1, depending on the direction, and Shift is 0.

Scolling messages are produced all over the application area, with x and y reflecting the position of the pointer.

What is encouraging is that in the upper-right list box scrolling works fine once an item is selected, which is how it should be.

The scroll icon is displayed every time a scroll is asked for, which is a very minor nuisance (which also happens with other applications).

The results are surprising!

scrotty and raananb get uMsg 20A -- that is WM_MOUSEWHEEL, so scrolling should work! :? The top left box should be filled with data like:

Code: Select all

14:04:22
Delta = 1
Shift = 0
X = 243
Y = 211
Is it?

j_c_hallgren gets uMsg 21, that's WM_MOUSEACTIVATE and has nothing to do with scrolling -- scrolling should not work for j_c_hallgren.
