non ASCII symbol when rename file

Post by saedrna »

Hi,

I am new to XYplorer recently and am working on WIN 10 x64.

I have encountered a bug when rename file to chinese symbols. It seems that XYplorer does not support Chinese symbols and changed to ???? instead.

Here is the snapshort

Does anyone know a solution to this?

Thanks!

Welcome to the club.

You should hand out a bit more information (because XY is by default unicode capable and even on my german system I can create files with chinese characters in it).

Paste the contents of Menu - Help - Various Information, please.

actually, user Ashwin (and I) faced the same bug. Here's the discussion: www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=12367.
The rename should stick if you paste the new name into the rename box.

I have tested with input Chinese in a text editor and pasted it to the XYPlorer, which works fine.

But inputing directly in the XYPlorer will cause the problem. I have tried two Chinese input software, both of them failed (one of them is the default by Microsoft).

Strange, I have lots of customers in China. I cannot believe that they all should have this problem and nobody ever told me.

Is there *any* place (text field) in the XYplorer interface where you *can* directly input Chinese characters?

There is no place that I can input Chinese in WIN 10 x64.
I have also tested it in WIN 7 x64, and this works fine.

Hope this would help.

Don,

Windows 10, Enterprise x64 TH2.

Simplified Chinese as the default UI language (installed as a language pack)

When I switch from English to Simplified Chinese I get this menu bar in XY:

When I switch back to english by choosing
??(H) - Back to English (from SimplifiedChinese)

The top level menus get their english names back but a lot of entries in submenus still display ???(<a character>) "garbage"
One example:

Something is fishy in Win 10...

@saedrna

I don't know anything about chinese language...

Three screenshots:

1. This is the input method that I use after installing Simplified Chinese as the UI language
1.png
1.png (15.67 KiB) Viewed 2140 times
2. I've create a new .txt file and I'm currently in renaming mode. I pressed "a" on my keyboard and then I get this dropdown to choose a chinese character
2.png
2.png (20.47 KiB) Viewed 2140 times
3. After pressing "2" to select the second entry of that list, this is the final result of the new file name:

3.png (18.02 KiB) Viewed 2140 times
So I can't comment if it's possible to enter any chinese character "directly" but at least with this input method (which is the default after installing the language pack), it works...

I think it's my problem, because when testing XYplorer in another computer in WIN 10 x64, it also works fine.

No you are not alone, I faced this same bug on my two win10 x64 laptops, both newly upgrated from win81 and win7. Details are very the same with what you said previously. HOPE admin can help ! Your Chinese users did not mention this? I guess they are sleeping, but I am awake. Need help! 输入中文自动变成?问号

In my case, change the app's UI to local language solved the problem.
