Well, the conditions for that crash were not that easy to meet so the chances to actually get the crash were extremely low (in v16.00.0232). But being a hopeless perfectionist I'm happy the chances are zero now with PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.315.0. Other than that I see no reason to upgrade.klownboy wrote:Don, is there any need or value in updating to PDF-XChange Viewer (2.5.315.0)? I'm not experiencing any issues with your new Preview 2.0 and I'm still using 2 year old PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5 Build 214 - dated Dec 30 2013. I ask only because some users experienced issues upgrading (e.g., thumbnails), but that may have been using their Editor if I recall correctly. So if that's the case, updating to the latest Viewer shouldn't be a problem...hopefully. Thanks.

Re: Preview 2.0 - PDF Related Crash
Thanks Don, I downloaded the latest version of PDF-XChange Viewer, but I'll stick with my old one at least until I notice an issue.

When reading about the PDF issue I tried hard to get XY to crash. Couldn't do it.
Working perfect on my end (finally PDF support for my preferred reader).
I use Sumatra PDF.

Sounds exactly like the bug of the old PDF-XChange Viewer version. One can only hope they fix it.

Re: Preview 2.0 - PDF Related Crash
My observations concerning to PDF preview in XYplorer 16.10.0000 - 16.10.0100, OS: Windows7 64 bit, Adobe reader 11:
Two processes AcroRd32.exe are always started when I initialize preview for some pdf file.
During one session happened to me that these processes were not closed together with the termination of pdf preview.
I could work normally without crash of XYplorer in this case. (XYplorer 16.10.0004)
But when are the two processes AcroRd32.exe properly closed with the termination of pdf preview then XYplorer crash.
Crash occurs not immediately, after a few minutes. No matter what the user is doing.

Re: Preview 2.0 - PDF Related Crash
Thanks for the report.
My up-coming approach with XYPrevHost.exe will solve the issue for good. Adobe will crash XYPrevHost.exe and nobody will care.

Crash Maybe PDF related, maybe not
I'm using the latest (production, not preview) version and get a memory exception every time I try to load the program. I had been using PDF just before this started happening, but I did a reboot and it's still happening. Any advice?

Could I see the error message, please?

Re: Preview 2.0 - PDF Related Crash
I can't figure out how to upload an image here--I saved the execution error as a .png file (from a screenshot). But there is good news--evidently my problem was with Firefox rather than PDF. After a reboot (and with FireFox started again), I got the same memory error when invoking XYplorer. So I exited that one app (the browser) and magically XYplorer worked again. Reinvoking Firefox did not result in a crash, and at the moment I have both Firefox and XYplorer working simultaneously again.
Anyway, if you can tell me how to upload an image I'll be happy to do so.

Re: Preview 2.0 - PDF Related Crash
Thanks. Looks like nothing I can fix. But let's try one thing:
Try to start a fresh instance (copy XYplorer.exe to some temp dir and run it from there). If it works then something very strange must have happened to your configuration files. If not than something in your system is not as expected by XYplorer.
