Very long launch times on Windows 10

Post by 40k »

I've been experiencing very long launch times of Xyplorer 15.70 and 15.90 on my Windows 10 install.
It's so bad that I can launch Windows File Explorer and navigate to my intended folder before XY appears on the screen.
On average the launch time is 10 seconds...
I've already tried a fresh install (15.90) but the effect remains the same. Having multiple folders open in XY or none at all makes no difference.

XY runs as a portable app and sits on my Samsung 850 EVO SSD.

Any pointers?

Tried it but makes no difference. I do a lot of stuff on my network. Maybe it'as trying to poll network locations somehow?

Yes, probably. Somewhere in your tabs (on each pane) or somewhere else (?) could be a stale network location. Let me know if you find it. This should be handled better...

Found it! My other pane had a stale network folder open.

I recommend this setting then:
Configuration | Startup & Exit | No network browsing on startup

FYI - an inactive pane can have another unwanted effect: it will prevent dismounting / ejecting an external drive. This puzzles me every now and then, because I forget that I had that drive open and of course it's no longer visible.

I just mention it here for the record, since I'm not sure there's any fix needed or practicable. Maybe a tweak to have inactive panes unlock the folders they were viewing... but that might have side effects since scripts can address inactive panes.

The locking comes from the watch (for Auto-refresh). Without the watch => no auto-refresh => list not up-to-date.

Yes, that would be a serious side-effect for scripts that expect an invisible inactive pane to be up-to-date.
