PDF Previewing

Post by t_mcconnell »

When I preview PDF files they appear as text in the preview windows. How do I configure XYplorer to use my default PDF engine (which is Bluebeam Revu)?
I'm sure it's documented somewhere however I have been unable to find means and methods in the help files or the forum. I can preview in Windows Explorer
(see attached png), even multiple page pdf's and panning and zooming is available there. Thank you.

Don't know Bluebeam Revu. Generally a PDF viewer should install the 32-bit and 64-bit thumbnail handlers. The 32-bit ones are needed by XY.

The screenshot shows Quick File View - shouldn't it be displaying PDFs in hex mode?

I assumed he pressed F11 and it fell back to Quick File View because no image could be extracted.

Even so why would it not be in hex view still?

Good point. I can repro this only be adding PDF to Preview Formats | Text... hmm... (got to leave now, but there is a question to the OP now...)

@ t_mcconnell: can you reproduce the problem with a fresh instance? (http://www.xyplorer.com/faq-topic.php?id=fresh)

I tried the fresh; command and I still get the same results with the viewer: "No preview available". The view changes from black background to hex when I toggle F11 back and forth. If other users are able to preview PDF's then the only information I can think to add at this moment is that my OS is Windows 7 Enterprise (which may or may not be relevant).

Tip: v15.20 will bring a whole new preview. Maybe this will fix it for you.

I can't wait to see it, and I hope it will bring some enhancements to pdf's thumbnails generation as well!

Hi there, should the new PDF preview work with 15.20.0300 ?
Unfortunately this is not true for me. I can only see a black windows with a red bar at the bottom saying "no preview available..."

Works here, but apparently depends on a couple of system factors (esp. which PDF viewer software is installed). Well, a better preview is the next big feature, so there is hope...

True! Using Acrobat delivers a proper result, not so with Nitro PDF... OK, wait and see
