Confirmed! So it's a bitness issue.

Which makes it even more strange. I can drop to other 64-bit apps without problem, just not to Notepad. :veryconfused:

So maybe the problem is with notepad itself? I know this is a weird suggestion but perhaps you should go download another file manager like http://freecommander.com/downloads-portable and test to see if you can drag and drop the files from it to notepad 64bit. At least freecommander is also only a 32bit application. It's a quick enough check to see if it's notepad 64 on Win8 that's the issue.

Are the following 2 problems related to this one?

http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13236
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13178

BTW. I tested the above problems using xplorer2_lite, which is a free 32 bit files manager, on Windows 7 64bit. It works just fine.

It seems that there is a general problem with drag & drop in XY.

Not here. Just tried it with the last version on Win8.1 64bit.

Yeah we know it's a problem with Win 8 not Win 7. So far, all Windows 7 works as expected which is also proven by your case. :)

Enternal, I think you misunderstood.

In the scenarios I described above, drag and drop works on Windows 7 (64 bit) ONLY when I use other explorers or the desktop instead of XY.
When I use XY it does not work on Windows 7 (64 bit).

Oh that's odd. Anyway, Don just released a new beta that might fix that so take a look and see how it goes:

Code: Select all

v14.80.0214 - 2015-01-27 11:00
    * Drag and Drop: Attempt to get better results with certain drop targets.

Sorry, but the above mentioned beta version does make any difference.

So does the problem also exist with a fresh XYplorer settings? Could you possibly list out all the steps (including file names and such) so that it could be replicated step by step? Also go to Help > Various Information, copy all that there and paste it here as well.

Yes, I noted that the new version does not fix dropping onto 64-bit Notepad under Win8.1. Still a mystery.
But I thought it might fix some other issues that have been reported elsewhere, like dropping into Skype.

I also have the problem.

I can drag and drop a text file from the desktop or windows file explorer into Sublime Text (or Notepad) just fine to open it.

But drag and drop from XYplorer to Sublime text is not working - nothing happens.

I'm using Windows 10, Xyplorer 16.50.0200.

Can't reproduce...

Works fine with Xyplorer 16.50.0200, Win 10 x64, Sublime Text 3112 x86

Is ST started with admin permissions, Win 10 is 64 bit?, ST 32/64-bit?

I don't think ST is started with admin permissions (how do I check that?).
But it's the same using Notepad anyway.

I'm using Windows 10 64bit, ST 64bit.
