File extension ending with spaces [fixed]

Post by bdeshi »

If I want to rename "file.txt" to
"file.txt "
, filename collision prompt comes up.
If "overwrite" is selected, "system cannot find the file specified" keeps popping up. Now refresh, and the file is gone forever!
("suffix" renames successfully to
"file-001.txt "
, although renaming this suffixed file again has the same problem)

Now, I know it's Windows' own problem, but shouldn't XY handle the situation with more safety?

More importantly, can anyone tell me how to get the file back? :blackstorm:

For the lack of a pc nearby, key sequence:
CTRL+SHIFT+n, f,i,l,e, ENTER, F2, END, SPC, SPC, ENTER, (collision dialog should be here) LEFT, ENTER, (overwrite prompt) ENTER, (file not found msg) ENTER, ESC, F5. file.txt disappears. For the other case, repeat and select suffix.

It does not happen here. No collision dialog.

Can anybody repro this?

Got it: It's the totally undocumented RenameAllowLeadingSpaces tweak. It has a bug. Fix comes.

Meanwhile, any way to get back the lost files?

Alright, I've recovered the file.
I didn't think for once it was just deleted  was so sure the file system ate them.

Thanks again!
