[didn't want to create a new post to talk about the network-sloth]
I found unchecking Config->Tree and List->Show Network Folder gives the normal speed in these cases ( :networking and startup).
Even though all other network-related settings that should speed up browsing is set up right.
(The slowness only became apparent to me while another app was using all the bandwidth and XY wouldn't start up, defying all known networking options)
So I think the tree does some networking on startup, ( even though all related options are telling XY not to,) unless it's blocked from displaying networks at all.
Don, ???

Re: Slow startup
Logical.
But I cannot reproduce any delay with or without that Network Folder.
PS:
1) Is that with or without Mini Tree?
2) Is that with or without Network Folder Caching?

Re: Slow startup
Try a slower network connection. But I cannot reproduce any delay with or without that Network Folder.
1) Mini-Tree enabled.
2) Network Caching enabled (as I said, other network-related options are optimized for speed)

Re: Slow startup
No chance. I believe you, but I don't see any possible connection in the code. And, of course, not the slightest bit of a delay.

Re: Slow startup
I reproduce two lines from my previous post. They sum up the topic for me.
My guess now is that the speed issue was solved by an update to Windows 8.1 (for a 64 bits CPU) yesterday and that XYPlorer settings do not have much to do with the problem.
