The tweak is a bit more radical than the GUI setting.

Applied the GUI method, no improvement.

Would apply the tweak, but need to know here to paste it (no address bar in bloc-note).

I had slow startup too and made some modifications: exclude XYplorer exe from Avira Antivir scan, put network in cache in options and activate MiniTree. The last manipulation seems to work nice as XYplorer launches now pretty fast.

Thanks for the tip.
I excluded XYPlorer from startup scan and activated the mini tree. No difference in startup time.
I have not found how to put the Network into cache. Can you be more specific please?

Take a look at Options>General>Startup & Exit.

After some more tinkering with the settings, things improved dramatically.

I have not investigated deeply into the combination of settings, and I dont have the original settings which were so problematic, but the current settings work well enough. Checked settings:

Startup & Exit:
No network browsing on startup
Check for updates on startup
Save settings on exit
Include most-recenttly-used lists on save
Backup settings on save

(Cache network servers makes no difference...)

Trees and List:
Show user folder
Show network folder
Show hidden files
Show systme files
Show junctions
Check existence of subfolders in tree
Select parent of moved folder
Select parent of deleted folder
Select last used subfolder
Select next item after delete and move

Maybe this will help in similar cases.

Many of those are not relevant to startup speed, but two of them should certainly be UNchecked to gain speed:
Check for updates on startup
Check existence of subfolders in tree

I was aware that some were not relevant to startup speed, but I just posted the config as it is.

As for the two items you mention, currently they have no effect on startup speed.

I admit I do not understand what actually slowed the startup, but I am relieved that operation is now coherent with the rest of the applications.

Good. (Although I wonder what it was.)

I think the miniTree feature should be in the FAQ with the virus scan for slow start up reason. It's very frustrating to have slow start and taking time to find a simple solution.

I made a system restore point restored the system to its configuration a week ago - before any modification to xyPlorer were made. XYPlorer version then is 14.20. Startup is again very long.

The checked items in Start & Exit:
Allow multiple instances
No networking on startup
Check for updates on startup
Save settings on exit
Include most-recently-used lists on save
Backup settings on save

Checked items in Tree and List:
Show user folder
Show Network folder
Show Recycle bin folder
Show hidden files and folders
Show system files and folders
Show junctions
Check existence of subfolders in tree
Select parent of moved folder
Select parent of deleted folder
Select last used subfolder
Select next item after delete and move

I unchecked Show Recycle bin (the only difference in Tree and List) and startup remained slow. This was expected, but I wanted to be complete.

I unchecked Allow multiple instances, Startup is still long. By now settings are the same as posted earlier, but no improvement.

I updated XYPlorer to 14.30 but still no improvement.

I restored the system to its configuration just before these tests. XYPlorer is speedy again!

My guess now is that the speed issue was solved by an update to Windows 8.1 (for a 64 bits CPU) yesterday and that XYPlorer settings do not have much to do with the problem.
