Rating star character not in default font (Win7)

Post by phil »

Testing the Extra Tag feature in v13.70.0127 (Win7 64bit).
It seems like the unicode character U+2605 for ratings stars is not available in the font "Segoe UI" (which is the default font of a ::fresh installation):

You can use the windows tool "Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> Character Map" to see that U+2605 is indeed not included.

Changing the font to "Segoe UI Symbol" works though:

Maybe this is not the case in Win8 (i cannot confirm). So maybe the default font for Win7 should be "Segoe UI Symbol" instead?

Whoops, that's surprising bad news. It certainly works in Win8. Can it be that Win7 does not support this, weird!

Can other Win7 users confirm this?

Argh... Okay, it seems like it's actually Chrome messing with Unicode characters on Win7 if it's started first. If I reboot and start XYplorer before Chrome, it works fine.
See http://superuser.com/a/434861
Anyway, setting "Segeo UI Symbol" as default font seems to be a workaround.

a ha, found it.
Default font = Tahoma
So, when I change XYplorer font to Tahoma, it works
(previously, I set XYplorer's font to Verdana)
