Dropping files into winzip caused me to lose manual sort
Dropping files into winzip caused me to lose manual sort
Hi, v23.50, I lost my manual sort order when I dropped a folder into a new zip WinRAR file. Steps to reproduce :
Right Click > New Items > WinRAR.zip > Drop a folder into the new WinRar file > Boom, manual sort order lost (it went to Index Ascending all by itself)
Question 1 : Is there a quick way to get my previous manual sort order back without manual sorting everything again?
Question 2 : Can this be fixed please?
Thanks :-)
Right Click > New Items > WinRAR.zip > Drop a folder into the new WinRar file > Boom, manual sort order lost (it went to Index Ascending all by itself)

Right clicking anywhere on empty space inside an XYplorer pane which brings up the Rt Click Context menu that has :
New Folder
New Text File
Copy Path
Refresh List
Views
Sort By
Columns
etc
etc
etc
New
New Items >
etc
etc
Select
Properties
Sorry I thought that was extremely self-evident ;-)

OK, you first created that new RAR file, and *then* you dropped a folder on it? At which exact point did you lose the manual sort?

Why did you mention "Right Click > New Items > WinRAR.zip". Is it a necessary step?

Re: Dropping files into winzip caused me to lose manual sort
Hmmm, interesting question. Because that's the easiest way for me to create a new zip archive. I create a new (empty) zip using the right click new zip method, then drag what I want to be inside the zip by dragging & dropping it on top of that zip archive. I just duplicated it again :
Manual sorted the files inside a folder (am happy) > Right Click > New Items > WinRAR.zip > Drop anything I want to be inside that new zip file by right click dragging it over on top of the new zip file icon > immediately manual sort order lost (it went to Index Ascending all by itself) - and not happy anymore

I see. Unfortunately I cannot reproduce it here. Hence not fix it.

Hmmm, you must be doing something different then because for me it happens every time. What steps are you doing that are different than mine to create a new zip archive?
Re: Dropping files into winzip caused me to lose manual sort
I think I get it. Simply put, renaming a file or folder removes the manually sorting. Everything mentioned is the effect.
... which I cannot confirm on a fresh instance actually.
... because resort on rename is off by default.
andyxoxo4, try again switching this option off in configuration:
Resort list immediately after rename
Don, regardless, this option should be suppressed on manually sorted folder, shouldn't it?

UPDATE: Well, actually it does not make much of a difference here. But I saw the problem now... I'm fixing it...

Re: Dropping files into winzip caused me to lose manual sort
Thanks for fixing it in beta version 23.50.0026... appreciate it much :-)
By the way, is there a quick easy method to revert back to my previous sort order or icons selection if somehow my sort order or icons view gets "messed up" again or changes somehow? Like a "revert back to previous view" button?
Cheers again...

Not sure what you mean by "icons messed up" but there is no way to restore a previous sort order.
There is a way though to restore a previous the previous selections: Edit | Select | Restore Selection

Re: Dropping files into winzip caused me to lose manual sort
Simply, if something messes up the manual sort order, like still the rename does , he wants to have a safety belt to restore that order. However, I rather think that nothing should mess up the order for sure.
