XY changes folder on its own

Post by MBaas »

I have a weird issue that only happens on a remote drive (that is addressed via VPN using a not-so-fast connection): sometimes XY changes folders on its own. Typical scenario is that I've navigated to a folder and am opening a floating viewer for files I'm interested in.
As I look at the content, suddenly the active pane changes to a folder 2 or 3 levels up.

(This may also happen while I'm just looking around, not even touching kbd or mouse!)

Unfortunately it does not happen when I'm trying to a screen recording :(
Is there any logging that I can turn on to be able to provide more details on this?

Could be a hardware problem. I once had a mouse whose wheel occasionally made a spontaneous step.

But why would it only affect this one location? (I never observed this behaviour when working with other folders - I might be on that remote path for around 10% of the time...)

Good question. :)

Does it also happen if you untick this?:
Configuration | General | Refresh, Icons, History | Auto-Refresh | Include network locations

Good question, too! :)

I've unticked that and will observe...

Ok - unticking did not help, I'm still seeing this...

Hmm. No idea what could cause this. Here is another good question: Why only you?

Right, that's a good one, too! :)

The quick answer might be: Karma. Or maybe I'm such a Power User (cough) that I provoke even the best hidden bugs to come out. :)

And ofc we can go on and ask: why is it only on that drive - and I can't answer that as well. Maybe it's the exceptional slowness of that drive that causes trouble to XY - but I have no clue what's going on.

And ofc I also questioned if I was possibly subconsciously hitting he kbd or mouse etc. - but then again: if I had such habits, why would they only show up when I'm dealing with that drive? And I think I've seen it too often now to believe in such theories...

I doubt there is much in it, but you could always check the debug log. Some weird things are listed there if they happen: dlog;

I just navigated until I it happened again and then checked the log: only DPI related stuff in it.
