Autodesk Revit

Post by skehg »

Using XYPlorer, if I Drag and Drop an Autodesk Revit 2017, 2018, 2019 file to the application nothing happens. If I drag and drop the file from Windows Explorer (or Directory Opus) it opens the file. This is a big issue for me. I'd love to purchase the full version of XYPlorer but purely for this bug am leaning towards directory opus (which seems to be a lesser program to me).

I am not the developer, but I am betting that this is because of a long standing Windows bug, there is an explanation of it here:

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/396 ... -to-64-bit

You could try this option, but I doubt it will change anything for you:

Configuration | Other | Shell Integration | Drag and Drop | Use standard shell drag and drop

While awaiting a reply from the developer I will offer a couple alternatives if you are interested. You can setup a custom toolbar button, that you could drag and drop files onto that opens them in AutoDesk for you, or use portable file associations but that wouldn't involve using D+D, more info here:

Thanks Jupe,

I don't think that is the issue (assuming I've understood it correctly) as the Drag and Drop works for Autodesk Revit 2015 & 2016. All versions of Autodesk Revit installed are 64 bit

I'll have a look at the portable open with menu, but might wait until the developer responds before making my mind up as my trial has expired

Did you already try jupe's tip to tick this?
Configuration | Other | Shell Integration | Drag and Drop | Use standard shell drag and drop

Sorry I haven't tried it because my trial has expired. Are you able to send me a configuration file to test it? Or do I just purchase it and get a refund if it doesn't work?

Just download https://www.xyplorer.com/download/xyplo ... nstall.zip
extract it and put it in a non-UAC protected folder, run it, configure
Configuration | Other | Shell Integration | Drag and Drop | [x] Use standard shell drag and drop
and test it...

Thanks for your help but that didn't work. I recorded the attached video before the version you sent me, but this is how it works with that setting either on or off.

Then it has to be that long standing Windows bug mentioned above.

This is also the case with Sublime Text 3 (x64), dragging and dropping a PHP file from XYPlorer onto the application window doesn't open the file.

However, Directory Opus (v11 and v12) doesn't have this problem.

I was very close to purchasing a licence before I discovered this issue. Sadly, as much as I'm liking XYPlorer this is a huge deal breaker for me as I do this sort of action many many times a day :(

Understandable. I would say "Let's hope they fix it soon", but my experience is they won't. :|

Thanks, but Visual Studio is not the same as Visual Basic.
