Re: Multilingual Support

Post by admin »

Well, (LOL), something is dragging me back to the translation thing once again... :roll:

Here come 2 questions for our East-Asian users:

1) When you have a Favorite Folder with East-Asian characters in the name, does it show correctly in the main menu (Favorites | Favorite Folders)?
2) When you create a user-defined command (UDC) with East-Asian characters in the caption, is the caption correctly displayed in the User menu?

Thanks,
Don

Thanks.

Now I still need verification for the Double Byte Character Sets (DBCS) used in East-Asia.

To all potential translators: Could you work with such a file? These are some UI controls captions from the main window. The point is that the info is decontextualized, so you don't really see where this piece of text will appear (although very often it is clear if you know the app). So, will this work for you anyway?

Yes, why not. Maybe a TAB instead of ">>"?

TABs are confuse to work with, IMO.
Granted '>>' will ALWAYS be a separator, ie, no other occurrences of it will be found among base or translated text, it's fine for me.

Not a translator but would presume that a given unique string would only occur once? Saw the numerous "Not" in items 25-36 and a couple of other similar ones.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Yes, this is the dumb-and-fast method. It won't happen very often but in this context it's the best way to do it.

Exactly, that's why I chose ">>". It should have no other occurrences, and it should be visually strong, and it should be easy to type from a normal keyboard anywhere in the world.

I think this form is not good
0200=Configuration...>>C&onfiguration...

good or standart is
[RESOURCE]
CodePage=1251
[STRINGTABLE]
0200="Configuration..."

after translation
0200="Конфигурация..."

Hmm. I don't consider this a dumb-and-fast method, I never encountered canonicalisation to happen at the level of the input resource bundles, they're just config items. A label is a label no matter how often the single words may repeat accross different labels. And: how could you establish a working QS when you already optimize information redundancy at this stage?

I find my format much better.

a) it's easier for the translator to have the original right there

b) the user can easily control the translation in case of doubt

c) loading the translation will be much faster like this

d) this format allows me to continue developing the app without caring about the translation

Trust me. I have thought about this a long time.

BTW, it's much too early for criticism. I just posted a question. There will be more questions before I let you see the final format.

And that's fine and true -but- DmFederov is showing the format that I've seen used in most language files that I've seen when verifying they are unneeded for me and can be deleted...so I think for any translators benefit, using a format that is common would be best.

I'm aware of this and I deviate from the standard only after thorough consideration.
