Visual Studio Community Edition

Post by bdeshi »

Recently discovered Microsoft has released the free Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition back in November. And it comes without the restrictions of the Express editions.

HOME DOWNLOADS

They say, "Visual Studio Community 2013 includes all the great functionality of Visual Studio Professional 2013, designed and optimized for individual developers, students, open source contributors, and small teams."

And the enticing licensing term:
Individual license. If you are an individual working on your own applications to sell or for any other purpose, you may use the software to develop and test those applications.
So it looks like MS gave us VS2013 Professional for free, as long as any 5 of us don't team up. :D

A great move by Windows imo.

VS2015 would allow to compile to native code as well.

Don,
May be its time to make a move to .NET. You would be able to compile to native code without worrying about .NET framework being installed on users PC.

Not right away though. Only Windows store for now, but desktop apps are on roadmap

But the framework (at least a part of it) gets included into the program. Not looking forward to a 40mb xyplorer.exe! :kidding:

It will be minimal. Only those parts that are used will be bundled. So shouldn't be a huge difference

Wouldn't bother me at all in 2015! Average DSLR raw files will be soon around 40-50 MB, even my Lumia DNGs are ~14 MB.
