Best dual-pane-only file manager?

Having used single-pane file managers since 1996 (with a couple of random tries to finally understand what people like about NC clones like the FAR Manager), I often find myself copying folders from one directory to another lately. Actually that's a task where using Total Commander etc. would really excel and I could probably save a few seconds.

I really do want to try to use a dual-pane mode for that, but the only application where I'm able to work in that mode is WinSCP yet. I know my preferred file managers have a dual-pane mode but it's so inviting to just disable the second pane and work with tabs only. So I'll have to force myself into using a file manager which only supports the "double" mode so my lazyness can't win again.

Of course I won't completely replace my main file managers, I just want to have a decent fallback "NC clone" for this one special task.

After having dug through current alternatives, I came to a few conclusions: Total Commander is ugly and unnecessarily complicated to use (even its Ultima Prime or what-it-is-called distribution), so are its own clones (Double Commander and the like). muCommander is Java. FreeCommander supports a single-pane mode so it won't be a suitable FM (I already have XY and x2).

Not dropped as interesting software yet are:

1. Altap Salamander (does it have folder tabs?)
2. SpeedCommander
3. FAR Manager (I use ConEmu a lot anyway)

As I can't decide, I'm open for thoughts.

Also selbst wenn Du ein absolut tolles dual-screen-only Programm fändest würde Dir das nix nutzen - denn Du könntest schließlich immer noch XY aufrufen

Hol dir ne uralte Version eines Dual-Pane Managers. Bevor man abartigen User-Wünschen nachkam und eine Single-Pane Option einbaute.

Oder lass es dir kaputtprogrammieren. Kann ja die Welt nicht kosten.
Falls du immer im gleichen Vollbildmodus arbeitest, könntest du auch die gefährlichen Schalter mit Hansaplast überkleben. Ein Patch im wahrsten Sinn des Wortes.

Ich bin Informatiker, ich brauche keine Selbstdisziplin, wenn ich stattdessen Software nutzen kann.

(Eigentlich braucht ja auch niemand wirklich was Anderes als den Explorer, oder? )

Kenne deinen Feind. Oder, auf gut UNIXisch: Ein Werkzeug, ein Zweck. SpeedCommander und XY/x2, nicht stattdessen - so wird's was.

(Unter OSX hätte ich übrigens gern XYplorer, muss stattdessen muCommander nutzen, weil alle anderen brauchbaren Dateimanager teuer und hässlich sind. So kann's gehen.)

Dafür ist die integrierte SFTP-Unterstützung prima, stabiler als WinSCP. Das war's wert.
