I'm gonna jump in and suggest USBDLM. I use it for this purpose as USBDLM allows you to apply icons to drives based on variety of options: drive type, bus type, volume label, etc... (RTFM!!!).

This works well. It's a shame this can't be handled as thoroughly in the XY settings.

I had scripted something similar out of need/paranoia, but this is so much cleaner than my hasty hack.

Regarding rar/7z hover, my crazy path does not support <xydrive>.

*Edit: One other thing, if I set my crazy WinRAR path to something other than a default install path, and the executable is not there, as unresolved path, I would expect RAR to be handled by 7-zip, but it is not.
