I meet the same problem with last version of Pdf-Xchange. I went to Help>File Association and changed Preview and Thumbnail to Yes in Pdf-Xchange and it fixed Preview.

I discovered that it works with middle-click on status bar so I think I will use this.

Do you run any mouse gesture apps or anything like that, those could possibly be responsible. Well, I use a ton of applications (QuickAccess Popup and Listary by example - but after closing them, same problem). No mouse gesture application. It may be another application but it will take a long time...

I think I found the reason of the freezing. One directory involved has some psd file that causes problem with thumbnail creation - so the freezing.
