If I use right-click "Move/Copy/Backup To"\"Copy To" to copy a file, the copy does not seem to work if the file already exists (but an older version). The old file does not get overwritten and there is not message to that effect. The "Backup To" variant does work. XY 6....

Try a machine restart - I was having this same problem in WinXP, but it's gone now after I restarted my machine because Windows Update said I had to.
