Re: Multiple renaming actions on copied files

In Windows 7 I often use copy/paste to create a file backup, and then add a date to filename. Copy and paste of a file creates a filename with "- Copy" appended to the name. Currently, I do two XYplorer renaming operations: Batch Rename to append date: * <datem yyyy_mmdd> Next, Search and...

Re: XY Favorite Icons to Windows Explorer ?

You can find most of the Windows icons in C:\Windows\System32\ imageres.dll or C:\Windows\System32\ shell32.dll You can extract them with Greenfish or IcoFX Just copy the .dll and drag it into the program window. I think he wants to go the other way, XY icons to explorer, not use Windows icons in X...

Re: XY Favorite Icons to Windows Explorer ?

I want to get the favorite icons used in XY to Windows explorer explorer, in-case I have to use explorer ? I had a program that could do this, I can't remember the name, I removed it to fast :( Try IconTweaker . There is another called IconPacker, but it's not free. BTW, I just Googled this, I have...

I'll repeat my opinion that anything and everything that can be done via the toolbar buttons needs to be a command with ID and assignable shortcut key.

Re: regex reuse

Trasd, thanks so much for the prompt response. Yes that is exactly what I was looking for. That will make the regex replace so much more useful to me. ps One of my favorite quotes in your sig. Arthur C Clarke I think. Real wisdom. The quote makes so much sense to me! I was wondering about backrefer...

Re: regex reuse

I've tried a couple of times to see if the reuse string part of regex works in XYplorer but have been unable to find a way to make it work. If it is possible, could you point me in the right direction. Otherwise I'd like to add it as a wish. Are you talking about backreferences? Check here . I'm no...

Re: Clickable breadcrumbs.

How many more weeks? It's been my experience that Don doesn't like to give timeframes as he works on his own schedule/timeline and trying to pin him down is counterproductive...and he's still got at least another month from his prior post range... +1 Yes, and generally my attitude to time frames an...

Re: List scroll position when going up

Learn to use "Back" instead of "Up" and the previous List scroll position is restored. :P The way I understand this behavior is they are, indeed, two totally different functions: Back = Should restore list back to previous state, almost like you made a mistake and need to back o...

Re: Autosize Columns won't shut off

Don, sorry I took so long to get back to this, but maybe that's a good thing. Possibly and probably I got used to setting up XY again because I could not reproduce the problem this time. I tried all the different combination and sequences I could think of and, short of not saving my settings, turnin...

Re: snappier launch of file or folder.

I actually would NOT want the current behavior to change. I think there are advantages to having no files selected when you first go into a folder. Much less likely to do something unfortunate by accident. I agree. The less automation in my utilities, the less I have to try to fix a behavior that i...

Obviously my imagination, thanks for the quick response as always!
Have you tried FileLocator Pro (or Agent Ransack, the free version)? I've been using it for years and love it.

Re: A few questions and initial experince with xy

My tool bar didn't get too crowded in pd. I just had a few icons that brought me right to a directory I needed to get to quickly. If I can't figure out how to go to a preferred directory in one click, I guess I'll continue the search for a file handler. I guess I should have waited out the 30 day t...

Re: Autosize Columns won't shut off

Hey Don, sorry, I thought someone else might list the steps necessary to reproduce the problem, then realized I might be the only one in this topic that can make it happen, reliably. Unfortunately, I've not been on my PC for a bit, but as soon as I get the time, I will detail the steps for you. Hope...

Re: A few questions and initial experince with xy

I used PowerDesk for years before finally switching to XY. I recorded my experiences here for people wondering if XY is worth it. Personally, after switching to XY, I have never looked back. At first, I also wanted something as close to PD as I could find, after all, I could work it in my sleep. XY ...

Don, did you try temporarily renaming your XY INI file and running XY with the defaults? That works every time for me.
