Re: writefile()
I'm a bit with j_c here: for me returncode shows an error, so 1=true if error... This is good, if there can be different errors, shown with different numbers, while 0 is no error. But bad, if there are different codes to show different kind of success. From this kind of view the question: do you exp...

Re: Should disk management be a part of XY
A good solution inside XY would be fine here. But I use a free version of the before mentioned TreeSize - it's quite easy: in XY you right-click on any directory, click TreeSize, and will see a nice graphic view of this dir and all it's subdirectories. Only problem: it's an own window, not imbedded ...

Re: History for every tab
For direct use, such options (as a kind of default) are always useful. But for inside a script an operand like TabClose "gotoprev" would be optimum? With operands like first, last, left, right, 3. Maybe numeric ones (beside "prev") could be enough, with: 1=first, 5=5th or last, (...

Re: Terminal Server - Copy to clipboard in local
I see that there are some limitations, especially in Don's time. So I think we can agree on your last sentence:

My 2 cents/

Re: Terminal Server - Copy to clipboard in local
Yup, its always good to have an easier way than scripts (people might ask, "why learn a whole new language to use file manager?"). I guess thats why Don thought of snippets, which users can use as plugins (if i can call that). Read what Don has to say about "Snippets" . Maybe ye...

Re: OT: need free CD/DVD burning soft
Damn, it needs .NET Framework v2.0. I'm not interested in installing that. Is this a good idea? (First let me say: I don't know much about it and may be completely wrong in what I'm saying...) But isn't .NET Framework just a runtime for programs requiring it? As VB runtime is for others? And you in...

Re: Terminal Server - Copy to clipboard in local
Not being a scripter myself, as what I do tends to be more simple, I can see both sides of this...so maybe some of these "add-on" scripts need to be accumulated and incorporated into the release as samples? Since they can be executed in ways that are just about as easy as if they were bui...

Re: XY installer
If you're in a company environment and downloading EXEs is restricted then it is usually for a reason and you (not you per se, just in general) shouldn't try to overcome that rule. Many people have display of filetype supressed. And after receiving a mail with madonna.jpg they click it and don't un...

Re: History for every tab
I'd just want to repeat something in other words:
For me best is a tab specific history incl. tab-specific list. In other words: the base.
Global history (with list) is just an extension - but sometimes very useful!

Re: History for every tab
I have a somehow related question: When tab is closed, should "its history" be deleted? Maybe a question more to programming than to using XY? Or a questions to what views we have on history? In a global history view, as is now, I think nothing should be deleted if closing a tab. Globally...

Re: History for every tab
Basically History Per Tab is very fine, much better than before! :) For me the wraparound looks a bit strange, too. And: I'd prefer Lists per tab over one list for all tabs. While it can be fine to have the summary-list, too. Especially to refer to entries of a just closed tab, that would vanish oth...

Isn't there are difference?
I'd say Cassius Clay and Muhammad Ali are alias names, while "The Greatest" is something like a nick, isn't it?
So maybe 2 names for a command, maybe for historical reasons, are aliases. While a private, possibly shorter name is something like a nick?

Re: Global variables in scripting
In one thing jacky is very right: even if globals are defined by command you can distinguish local and global vars by name, if using a private naming convention. (And I think, everyone should do this!) But this will often not be as expected, if using scripts of other people. Here a "forced"...
