Re: Tags problem, sharing across a network
We seem to have overlapped messages. . Now you say "a share has a name which comes after the name of the machine" OK! An explanation in ordinary language! Praise the Lord! Now we're getting somewhere. My problem is that the Dropbox folder, which is absolutely massive, sits directly on E, t...

Re: Tags problem, sharing across a network
So maybe we could go back to 15:44 where I said: "I began by finding out the location of my Dropbox folders on server and client: Server: (MATTHEW-PC) E:\Dropbox Client: (OWNER-PC) C:\Users\Owner\Dropbox So I assume I need an admin.ini in the server XYplorer folder: [UniversalLocalMapping] Coun...

Re: Tags problem, sharing across a network
highend, I did not mean to offend, but I was deferring to the fact that when you pointed this out, admin did not respond.
I am happy to rewrite the path. What should I write?

Re: Tags problem, sharing across a network
XYplorer has also developed very slow startup, on both Server and Client. Something is obviously not right. . If the admin.ini paths seem to you correct as written, despite the criticism from highend, I am tempted (because of this weird slowness) to save the admin.ini folders somewhere, uninstall XY...

Re: Tags problem, sharing across a network
The tags on the client have now disappeared. Meanwhile 4 tags on the server have appeared, as below: SharedTags.dat now says: Storage: 0 (Absolute paths) Data: \MATTHEW-PC\1 Ongoing work\1 Architecture\1 My Writing and Research Notes\Books and Long Reports\Barkham & Murray - Sustainable Social H...

Re: Tags problem, sharing across a network
Question 1. Over the course of the last few hours I would have given you many different answers Anyway, to answer your question…. On the server I have loaded “6” in the Tag column and “7” in the Extra 1 column On the client I have loaded “3” in the Tag column and “4” in the Extra 1 column SharedTags...

Re: Tags problem, sharing across a network
I began by finding out the location of my Dropbox folders on server and client: Server: (MATTHEW-PC) E:\Dropbox Client: (OWNER-PC) C:\Users\Owner\Dropbox So I assume I need an admin.ini in the server XYplorer folder: [UniversalLocalMapping] Count=1 ULM1=\\MATTHEW-PC>E:\Dropbox And an admin.ini in th...

Re: Tags problem, sharing across a network
I'm like a deer crossing a road at night staring at the car's headlights. The deer is fascinated by those lights but has no idea what they mean. ... A tagged file manager could be so useful to a large portion of the world's researchers and writers. At present they don't even know that it is possible...

Re: Tags problem, sharing across a network
Realiistically, I don't think someone with zero coding experience stands a chance here. I read that the admin.ini file is (or can be created) inside XYplorer.exe, and that XYplorer is written in VB6. A friend has also given me some pointers: "Edit the admin.ini file to something like [Universal...

Re: Tags problem, sharing across a network
Correct. There was a network permissions issue, which I have fixed. I now have read + write from client to server. However I still have problems. They seem to occur because the files I am trying to tag are held within different drives on the different PCs. The server uses drive E, the client drive C...

Re: Tags problem, sharing across a network
That seems to have cured that bug. However I personally continue to experience problems. A] I went through all the steps, used Load Tags Database, then Tools | Configuration | check Auto-refresh Tags, checked that the path was the same, and that the folder and file was visible from the client, but c...

This discussion has effectively shifted to viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21687#p177765
as it turns out that a bug is part of the problem.
