Some simple step-by-step guides would be nice
This is my 3rd time trying to get up to speed with XYplorer. Each time it has been because of a specific task that the Windows File Explorer could not do or did poorly. The previous 2 times, I got sidetracked before I was able to figure out how to do what I needed to do in XY. I don't recall now wha...

Excellent step-by-step example
While reading through the Tour, I came across the page about Finding Files with XYplorer . It has three "practical examples" clearly showing the power of XY for common search tasks that many people would find useful. These three examples should form the basis for a solid basic understandin...

Suggestions for FAQ re malware
As a new user, I was reading the FAQ and came across the suggestion about Windows Defender (MSE) causing performance degradation. I spent 15-20 minutes checking unsuccessfully for that software. I then spent more time posting a question here only to be told that it does not apply to Win XP, which I ...

Windows Defender (MSE) not found
I was reading the FAQs and came across the part about excluding the program from Windows Defender. I opened the Control Panel as instructed, but did not find an entry entitled "Windows Defender" or "MSE". I opened the Security Center, but didn't see either one there. I opened the...

Search inside excel cells?
Can XY search for a string inside an Excel worksheet cell? I need to make a change to the syntax of a subroutine I wrote some time ago. The change will cause any calls using the old syntax to break. I tried using Windows search with "*.xls*" in the file name field and "=xyz(" in ...

Re: XY -- The Unsorted Dictionary
However, I must say, XYplorer's help is among the best structured --and actually helpful-- ones that I've found. The help is better than most shareware, but that's a low bar. The problem is not that the help is incomplete. My guess is that most questions are answered somewhere in the mass of help f...

XY -- The Unsorted Dictionary
There is no question that XY is a powerful tool. But most of that power is hidden away in obscure and sometimes impenetrable documents and help files. I have been trying to get up to speed with it, but I keep running into questions that take me so long to research that I get frustrated and put it aw...

Screen layout graphic?
Is there a graphic anywhere that shows the various screen layouts with labels for the different components (navigation panel, breadcrumb bar, etc.)?
Even better would be for XY to display the name when I hover the cursor over it. That would be more dynamic and clearer.

Stealth folders in breadcrumb bar
A few selected folders do not seem to want to show themselves in the breadcrumb bar. One of them is My Documents , which is really C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\ . If I click on most folders in the Navigation (left) Pane, the path is displayed in the breadcrumb bar. If I click...

Is there a "go back" or "undo" for navigation?
I was reading about the Address Bar and trying to figure out the difference between the various headers. I accidentally clicked on one of the "fields" in the blue bar on the top of one of the windows -- the one with the parts of the path separated by right-pointing triangles (>). At least ...

Re: XY does not show the Carbonite right-click menu option
XY is an Explorer replacement. Any part of Explorer that it cannot replace should be listed. Otherwise, it's misleading. And as an Explorer replacement XY fully supports properly developed shell extensions. Baloney. Explorer, with all its warts, is the standard that all users are used to. If you ar...
