Re: Thumbnails not updated after file is renamed
As for klownboy's comment re the safer way, I agree that leaving extension alone is better, given the significance the extension has for the operating system. I would have made 'basename only' the default, rather than the exception that requires a change in the Config file. But obviously, at this ti...

Re: Thumbnails not updated after file is renamed
If the current behavior has never been questioned before, I'd say it's rare. Whether to add a specific option to include or exclude extension when swapping (as you have for renaming), I'd say depends on how difficult that is. I AM using a script for swapping now. But, again, my problem is with the t...

Re: Thumbnails not updated after file is renamed
To clarify, I guess Admin never expected that a user would try to swap names of two files with different extensions. I wrote a program that was used by more than 100 blood testing laboratories around the world. I had lots of experience with users doing the unexpected. And it seems I do the same thin...

Re: Thumbnails not updated after file is renamed
I guess, both a wish and a bug. I perceive it as a bug, given all the warnings you receive from Windows, like "Are you sure you want to change the extension? Certain functions may not work if you do that.", etc. The base name, set by the user, doesn't 'mean' anything to the operating system other th...

Re: Thumbnails not updated after file is renamed
Yes, that's the script I've been using. I hadn't realized it's been 8 years. How time flies! And I've been using XYP for even longer. Admin commented that "the need to just change the bases never appeared to me in real life". He must be referring to just the words "need" and "real life". The idea mu...

Re: Thumbnails not updated after file is renamed
I've tried the 'all at once' option, but with 400-500 files in the folder, it was too slow. I just thought of another possible cause: when I swap file names, I usually use a custom script (that was written for me by one of the other users here). Here's an example of the problem solved by the script....

Re: Thumbnails not updated after file is renamed
Thanks for your help! All renaming was done within XYP* Autorefresh is ON, as is 'Refresh during file operations' The thumbnail settings you asked about are shown in the attachment. For you, a thumbnail was updated immediately after the file was renamed. That's usually the case for me, too, but not ...

Thumbnails not updated after file is renamed
I just spent more than an hour looking for a file that I had renamed. Much of the renaming involved swapping 2 file names and/or Batch renaming. Because I had renamed multiple files, I was viewing thumbnails rather than file names. The file was not in the original folder. I searched other folders, i...

Show only folders where name contains comma followed by a space, i.e. ", "
I'm looking at a top-level folder. It contains no files, just subfolders. I want to see only those folder names that contain a comma followed by a space (e.g. Smith, John), or that do NOT contain a comma followed by a space, (e.g. Smith John) I've tried setting a visual filter using wildcards (e.g. ...

Re: Thumbnail with dimensions not correct.
Yes, though I've never had a problem with corrupted thumbnails before. But without any information about anything else I might have been doing at the time, you can't investigate this.

Re: Thumbnail with dimensions not correct.
it isn't RAW, it's TIF, 'tagged image file format'. Been around forever. See previous discussion re why the RAW setting has anything to do with this. The thumbnails were evidently corrupted. I don't know why. I cleared the thumbnail cache and created new ones (more than 10,000 -- took some time). Th...

Thumbnail with dimensions not correct.
I recently turned off display of thumbnails for RAW images, which turned off thumbnails for TIF files. I found the solution to that here. In the course of troubleshooting, I recreated thumbnails for more than 1000 TIF files. I usually save with LZW compression. Now I've found a new problem. My setti...

Yes, just discovered that. Must have changed it by accident.
Thanks for your help.
PS: Always wondered what was meant by 'mixed sort'

Re: Sort folders apart
I closed XYP, used Windows Explorer to change the extension on the .ini file.
It must be corrupted. Now the folders are kept together -- at the top if I sort by date ascending, at the bottom if I sort by date ascending.
