Depending what user needs, the criteria can be say file/folder has tags, or some common part in names/paths, etc.

you still haven't changed your mind about grouping the files? Since Explorer doesn't have all the colouring/filtering abilities, like XY does, adding more grouping with colours would make a mess. Wanna add sudden story to my words. Just today i had a situation when i was on a road and needed to do lots of items reorganization, yet couldn't use mouse and had to deal with touchpad(which is A Pain when lots of drag'n'drop needed). Just mentioning, you can use "cache search results" to be more safe about refreshes of the search results tab.

@MBaas the easiest solution for you would be to either make colour filter or additional colour-tag, and manually mark all Favourites with that. You can even make a scripted button to do same marking in future, right before adding to Favourites.

BTW i support what xy123 said: if there'd be CEAs for Clicking on Folder Icons (Left, Middle and Right Click) and Clicking on File Icons (Left, Middle and Right Click) - Glider would be obsolete for me and so much opportunities added!

Can't say i use it that much, from time to time, mainly cause for me tree is more like a "roadmap/fast-traveler", and i'm not much used to do some file operations/drops there. But i definitely can't say Glider is useless, at the very least cause it has scriptable button and good amount of ...

Scripting can change tab's colours and one of CEA"Changing Location" may trigger such script. Should be possible.

You can spend time and change all icons to your own liking.

But it's still only for using inside tree panel(as i understand), so maybe RAFT?(Rapid Access Folders Tree)

Don't have a clue how it can work after uninstallation, but all that described "run, not showing window but hanging in processes" sounds as a behaviour of some "internal defence" blocking the proper work.(like say some virus monitor false-blocking unknown app)
