I often do this: I move the tree control so a destination directory is visible. Then I click on a file in one of the panes to drag it there. I have certain files I rename the same way (regular downloads, mostly). It would be helpful if it were possible to attach a name to the regular expression I use for this, so that I can more easily find it again.
