Well, tried several different alternatives to Windows Explorer, and they both gave me the same results as XYplorer. Both froze up completely at random times.

Ah. I ticked the box for Hide shell extensions from shell context menu, the box for Show Hover Box was already unticked, clicked Apply - still freezes. Maybe I need a bigger hammer?
