I stole my laptop back from my son for an hour and I couldn't reproduce the initial issue. Reboot after reboot. All was/is well.

There is no "start with Windows" configuration within XY. You need to do the opposite what WirlyWirly said. Remove the 32bit .exe from the Windows start menu.

At which time and what was the sender email? I delete them as soon as I read them, but looking at my deleted folder I see there were three notification emails overnight.
