Missing file type on JPG/CSV, etc.? (Can't find old thread)
I recall having this occur before, and seem to remember posting about it, so tried to find prior thread/posts about it but was unable to, thus...
Noticed that my JPG, TIF, CSV and similar files do not have any entry in file type column and "Type:" in Prop tab is blank...this is 5.50.17...
I thought I saw entries there for a while, at least a "JPG File" type literal, and not sure when it vanished...

Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

So how come Win Expl shows them correctly?
It never shows as blanks, no matter what funky or odd values the extension may have...

Did a bit more checking...and some of my odd file types (example: .iaf) are NOT listed within registered file types when I check via Folder Options...there is also no ".iaf" key entry in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
So when XY looks to find value, I don't see how it'd locate any result, and should thus default to "XXX File" syntax...
Also, I have some files (created by what, I don't recall) that have NO extension...and thus show as "File" in WE but blanks in XY...this is definitely not a REG issue, as no entry for them possible (AFAIK).
Here's my REG entry in HCR for JPG:
I have "IExif" by Opanda installed which makes it a bit different but still a JPG opens in IE by default and shows as "JPG File" in WE.
Update: My entries in HKLM\Software\Classes are same, as far as I can see.

That's why I spent over half an hour searching thru my prior posts to see if I could find it before starting thread...one of the downsides to being so frequent a poster here!admin wrote:I have the feeling we had this issue before some time... and solved it) ... but I do not find it.
And I took a quick look at emails also, in case we'd used that method...
Maybe the answer blew away in all that wind and rain that I understand y'all had?

I know this issue has been mentionned in this topic before, and it seems to be a jc-only behavior, cause I checked and here too all files have a Type (in XY), even being "File" or "ABC File" for files with no/"unknown" extension (eg. "file" & "file.abc")
But doesn't seem there was any solution for jc unfortunately...
Sounds like it might not be (only) XYspecific per-se, but maybe some kind of Windows settings. Weird thing is that the Type seems to show fine in Explorer or other replacement
Or maybe somehow it doesn't work on W2K, but on all Windows it does

jacky, thanks for finding that "needle in a haystack" posting! I remembered writing about it but just couldn't find it...didn't remember that it was just a few posts in a thread about something related to file type..
Anyway, it's weird because, I believe that, between November and now the types showed in XY for a good part of the time...so why they come and go it beyond me...
Update (6 hrs later): Just for fun, started up X2 to see what it showed...haven't used it for a while (no manual sync's recently)...and it, just like WE, shows the file type correctly! Two out of three work and XY is odd one out...
I'm going to see if I can find another minimal footprint file mgr to see how another one reacts to my odd system...will update if/when any results.

Make that four out of five! Just downloaded and tried two other non-install file mgnr variants (A43 and XPlorer)...they also show my CSV and no-extension files properly with "CSV File" and "File" as types...thus, I now even more convinced there is some unusual thing related to XY going on here...

Yeah, but it's also 1 (j_c_hallgren) out of many where this happens.j_c_hallgren wrote:Make that four out of five! Hey, I don't disagree that it may be a RARELY occuring issue!
Just that I've now got three more than just Win Expl where it works, while XY still doesn't...

It's been 14+- months since above and I'm still having this problem! And it now may potentially have a negative effect when I use my laptop to demo XY to someone else, like at this local group that I was going to...I'm up to 6.80.111 and it's happening now to JPG files, as one example.
