Show All Items In Branch

    + Menu Edit: added command "Show All Items In Branch (Ctrl+F3)". 
      Recurses the current folder (including subfolders) and lists 
      everything in it independent of the current Find Files settings.

A nice little shortcut there! I actually used to Ctrl+G, "?* /r" to get there as I like/use this kind of view regulary, especially for seeing whats going on in some folders and/or sorting some files.

But if I never thought of asking for a shortcut, I thought I'd take back the picture I posted a bit ago about what I had called "full-content view":


This idea is pretty much the same, and would be - to me - much more easier & powerfull to use, because the "tree structure" would be respected.

See, the problem with the way it works now is, based on the pic above with File01, File02, etc on many subfolders I would have them listed in that order: 1, 2, 3, 4.... and that's not what I'm looking for when I wanna use this kinda view. (nor do I want all the README files for example be "grouped" one after the other, or when i move a file I dont want just the Path column to be updated, I wanna see the files moves from one folder to the other!)

I realize the pic I made may look a bit "confusing/unclear" at first maybe. But items could be more idented, or there could be some kind of color indicator on the left (like you thought of for a bit there (image 5) but on the List this time) or even, the best, adding some little cross/plus sign to expand or not the subfolders! (yes, I mean on the List)

Or, if this sounds too "exotic"/much work/etc, simply having the ability to trade our 2 colums Name & Path into one column "Full Name", ie with Path!!
so files would be:
L:\Folder1\SubFolder1-1\SubFolder1-1-1\File04.txt
L:\Folder1\SubFolder1-1\SubFolder1-1-1\File05.txt
L:\Folder1\SubFolder1-1\File02.txt

Now items would be ordered along with the tree structure, no more "blocks" of READMEs and such...

Thats would be great, I think. But we need to be able to switch between this column and the 2 easilly cause I want the 2 for my search results! Well, the "Full Name" could be usefull at times too, but most of the times I want the two Name & Path.
But for this "full-content' or "Show All Items In Branch" feature, I really think this could be pretty cool!

But it's already there! If you sort the list by the path column, it's secondarily sorted by the name column! Exactly what you want!

BTW, my find mode list column order is always Path | Name | Ext | Size ...

hmm.. oh, yes.. yes & no actually. Well, yes it kinda does it (might switch my Path column in first place yeah ) but I know what "bugs" me then...

For this view, I'd like to have "Sort Folders Apart" disabled (but only there), but then not get this:

hmm yeah seems to kinda do it, expect for files that are put in the end instead of the beginning of their "sections"
But does that always work? Cause "Unsorted" kinda imply "chaos"/randomness to me

And I still beleive one "merged" column would be better to "understand" the list, I mean to see the structure, etc.
The whole point of this thing, to me, is to quickly see all files and where they are in one screen, and be able to rename them/move them around/etc.

Hence my sorting needs, but also a good "legibility" of where every items are. And the best for that, besides sort order, is also a one-column thing. Or else, for example, it's not easy to tell File 4, 2 and 3 are not in the same folder... (cause of order, and the fact that 2 colulns make all filenames on the same one (dah!) hence loosing the "structural" indentation)

It is chaos in FAT32, but in NTFS items are sorted alphabetically by nature (of the file system).

And I still beleive one "merged" column would be better to "understand" the list, I mean to see the structure, etc. ...

I like the indented look in your screen shot. I'll keep it in the back of mind and will get it out of there the next day I'm bored.

I mean, for best readability having files first & then folders would be much better, especially since then we can't have a bunch of files following eachother while not being on the same folder. (eg. file 8 & 9 are first on the list, not last).

Instead of bringing the tree to the list, what about having files in the tree?

Or: what I could do relatively easily is packing the filename into the Path column (instead of creating yet another column) and call it "Full Name" or so... just an idea. But I really have other things to do now...

hmm... not sure about that. Unless you mix the tree & list into one, cause the other columns (size, date, etc) would be missed. But as a temp. thing, that could be nice when sort files & such yeah. Just, how would that work? I don't want that to happen for all my Tree, only one folder & its subfolders....

Well I think having a Path only column is good, in other occasions. That's why I suggested a "new one" that we could trade instead of thoose two (or at least the Name one), or make the Name column incluide the path (as the Name column cannot be hidden, would be dupe with Paht having the filename aswell)

But yes sure, work on more important things now, I'll bug you again with this later
