Change Folder Icon = Not Updated / Displayed
If you change a folder properties icon via: right-click | properties | customize | folder icons | change icon... select an icon and click "ok" the Tree View will not have the icon refreshed. However if a Color Filter is active for 'attr:read only' it updates the folder in the Tree View with the associated color attributes, as folders with icons get the read only attribute set. XY must be closed and relaunched to have the icon refreshed or the workaround requires refreshing the icon cache followed by an F5.
Update
Interesting behavior as the above occurred 100% of the time UNTIL right-click | properties | customize | folder icons | change icon... | restore defaults | "ok" when then any icon changes results it correctly displaying the icon immediately (sometimes there is a slight lag effect).

Re: Change Folder Icon = Not Updated / Displayed
Consistently when "right-click | Properties | customize | Folder icons | Change Icon" select icon and "OK" doesn't update the icon in the Tree View. "View | Caches" has no effect. The only way to get the icons to update is to restart XY. There is apparently some activity on loading the Tree View that only occurs at startup or loading a new branch of nodes that doesn't otherwise occur when an icon is customized. Is there an XY configuration option that can affect Tree View custom icon updating?admin wrote:Well, here it always works.

actually this happens to me too, but not just for custom icon for folder =any icon changes(like changing icon for some fie type) apply only after restarting XY.Zardoz2293 wrote:"View | Caches" has no effect. The only way to get the icons to update is to restart XY.

Correct, the "system image list" cannot be updated other than with a restart.eil wrote:actually this happens to me too, but not just for custom icon for folder =any icon changes(like changing icon for some fie type) apply only after restarting XY.Zardoz2293 wrote:"View | Caches" has no effect. If you don't mind Don, what's technical limitation?admin wrote:Correct, the "system image list" cannot be updated other than with a restart.eil wrote:actually this happens to me too, but not just for custom icon for folder =any icon changes(like changing icon for some fie type) apply only after restarting XY.Zardoz2293 wrote:"View | Caches" has no effect. I'm experiencing any icon from any source. shell32.dll, any-program-name-with-icon-resource.exe, etc.
Update
Don, what I find odd about this behavior is applying (setting) a custom icon is only displayed upon XY restart. However, if you have a custom icon and you "restore" the change is applied immediately (no XY restart required).

Re: Change Folder Icon = Not Updated / Displayed
wanted to make a BugReport but a search allows me to refresh this thread...
I like to sometimes assign a new/different icon to some of my folders
from the folder properties I chose the new Icon
this messes up the all my special folder Icons in the tree (they get another icon than previously)
refresh list icon cache doesnt change it back to usual
I have to Quit and reload to see my normal folder icons back

Re: Change Folder Icon = Not Updated / Displayed
Sorry to reopen an old thread but I cannot change a directory icon - see capture: http://tof.canardpc.com/view/22f843e4-2 ... 05ea44.jpg
I put the icon in XYplorer icons folder and tried with a direct location but no effect.

Does not seem to work - after quick and relaunch XYPlorer. I had "Use generic icons" activated but after desactivating, nothing changed.

Re: Change Folder Icon = Not Updated / Displayed
Oh, now I see it: You have to add a trailing backslash to the folder in your custom icon definition.
