Thumbnails cached even with option disabled
I've noticed that with the last few betas the thumbnails get cached even if the cache option is disabled.
If I exit the app the *.dat2 and *.dbits files get deleted, but the XYThumbs.txt remains.

Whoops, right. Fix comes. (I does not do any harm though.)

Re: Thumbnails cached even with option disabled
Thanks for the really fast fix for the XYThumbs.txt, but there are still files created in the thumbnails folder.
I know that they get deleted if I exit the app, but if I disable the cache option (and thus I am unable to change the location) I expect that no files are written.

This is part of the new way. Essential.

Re: Thumbnails cached even with option disabled
OK, but then the options are misleading.
Maybe "Cache thumbnails on disk" should be renamed to "Keep cache on exit" and the folder setting should always be available.

Not worth getting 18 translators out of bed for.

I did not mean immediately. Maybe for the next release version.

Re: Thumbnails cached even with option disabled
I've just noticed that the thumbnails folder is slowly growing.
The app doesn't always delete the files at exit. At least it doesn't always delete all files like the clear button in the settings. Sometimes it seems that only a few files get deleted.

Re: Thumbnails cached even with option disabled
Hi Peter, are you noting what is happening when you "don't" have "cache thumbnails selected"? I thought Don's intent was to wipe the thumbnail folder completely on exit including thumbnail.txt file. I ask because even if you "do" cache thumbnails, when you delete a folder of images or delete the images in the folder, the associated thumbnail files "dat"2 and "dbit" will remain in the thumbnails folder. If you delete some files in the image folder, move images or even rename images those associated thumbnails remain in the cache files. The only thing that will properly update and slim down a particular image folder's thumbnail cache is to run Refresh Thumbnails on your image folder or run cid "::#501;" from the Address Bar. Even that will not take care of the deleted folders or all files deleted in a folder circumstances.Take a look at this thread http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 257#p90931 and the script if you cache thumbnails and want to take care of the issues mentioned above.

What file types are you seeing?peterbonge wrote:I've just noticed that the thumbnails folder is slowly growing.

Some quick testing here showed that occasionally the dbit files don't get deleted, but XYThumbs.txt and the dat2 all seem to be cleaned up correctly here.

Re: Thumbnails cached even with option disabled
I'm not sure why Don wouldn't simply wipe the folder clean on exit if one has the "Cache Thumbnails on Disk" option de-selected.TheQwerty wrote:What file types are you seeing?
Obviously, it's the "dat2" files that are "healthy" ones.

Yes, I have caching disabled.klownboy wrote:Hi Peter, are you noting what is happening when you "don't" have "cache thumbnails selected"? I thought Don's intent was to wipe the thumbnail folder completely on exit including thumbnail.txt file. ...
Yesterday after exiting the app the folder contained 16 *.dbits files with a size of about 3.3 MB.
All other file types always get deleted.
