Helpful scripts - Suggestions
Please submit any valuable script suggestions in this thread. I'll copy them to the sticky thread here afterwards:
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=12509
01. Title of the script
02. A short description of what it does
03. Minimum requirements (XY version, external tools)...
04. Link to the script
05. Categorization like: Visual appearance, File / Folder processing, ...
06. Author?
07. Latest version (I tend to avoid it so we don't to update this one daily^^)?
I'd say we should go for a categorized order of scripts.
Discuss!

Re: Helpful scripts - Suggestions
I think this would be very helpful. At least to a non-scripter like myself. Or at least having very limited scripting knowledge.
In some threads where a script is being developed, I'm not sure which is the final version and which are suggestions to make improvements etc. This thread would be complete working scripts if I read correctly??
An item to consider adding to your list above may be which version of XYplorer will be needed to run it.
I seem to recall reading posts where a certain version level is needed for some scripts. This may lessen the number of help postings when running the proper version is the answer.

At least for scripts that are without major bugs. Ofc this is open for scripts in development, too. This thread would be complete working scripts if I read correctly
I've modified post nr. 1 to include: Minimum requirements

Imo there should be an extra point, "keywords". A field where you can put all the words that can ease the search when you use ctrl+f in the browser.

Re: Helpful scripts - Suggestions
Great. I think it would even make sense to link to the script overview from the XY product tour. To demonstrate the extent of scripts and present some mouth-watering screenshots to the casual browser.
Who is expected/allowed to make suggestions?
Foremost, the authors themselves, I guess, since they are in the best position to provide the details.

Re: Helpful scripts - Suggestions
I suggest when posting to the sticky thread, please change the format to be tabular or something one-line per script.
Tip: The title should contain the url link, there should be no separate line for hyper link (waste of space)

Re: Helpful scripts - Suggestions
I'm afraid adding tags mainly creates additional redundancy because the description and category should already contain the most relevant keywords.Imo there should be an extra point, "keywords"
Should the overview thread contain one post per category or better stuff as much as possible into the first thread?
Can anybody create a list of possible categorization entries?

Re: Helpful scripts - Suggestions
- Everything in first post
- Just add things to that post, then we do the categorization later. It doesn't make sense when a category have only 1 or 2 script(s). Categories are meant to separate the mass/mess into easily searchable chunks, so let make the mass/mess first

Re: Helpful scripts - Suggestions
Why not one post per script, and the 1st post as an intro?
Besides a standard set of categories/labels need to be agreed upon first. Having all scripts in the same place will help decide.
However, it's more important to decide standard names+sequence for for all possible fields and which ones are optional. Because all submissions so far (incl mine, coming up) has different formats.
Here's my suggestion:
--- ---
SCRIPT: <script name>
AUTHOR(S): <author name> [, <more authors>]
ORIGINAL: <author name> (when needed)
SOURCE: <link to post containing script, no need for URL tags>
REQUIRES: <xyver>, <external tools>, <other script> (when needed, else optional)
DESC: <compact description here>
RESOURCE: <related/required resource title> (optional)
LABELS: {<label>} {<label>}

Re: Helpful scripts - Suggestions
I want to keep the entries as short as possible. Easier to skim over them.
Link get's it's own line. As well, easier to read if not in the title
If anyone is interested in a script he'll find any additional info in the script's thread itself.
Don't forget, this is just an overview to help (new) users to find interesting scripts faster...
Please provide at least the non optional lines from the first quote for every script that you want to get listed.
Try to deliver a potential category name as well.
To keep this thread rather clean please do it by a personal message...
Title is easier to read when it's boldTitle: Autostart XYplorer

Label(s): autostart
Optional lines:

Note(s): -> Contains requirements if necessary
