Single-click mode
Single-click mode
I have my computer set up in single-click mode...single clicking an item launches it, hover selects it. This works much better for me than double-clicking and I think it would be great if Tracker had an option to enable it.

Hmmm, sounds scary to me.JustinF wrote:... hover selects it.
I know of single-click mode but never liked it. But independent of my personal likings: implementing it would change the program (code) in a way so deep (internally) that I'm not inclined to add it. Code maintenance is a factor, too, and ultimately also the users benefit from it.
Sorry for you, but nope.
Re: Single-click mode
Well, I was suggesting it as an option, not as a required way to work with Tracker, and if a user chooses to turn on single-clicking they know what to expect.admin wrote:Hmmm, sounds scary to me.JustinF wrote:... hover selects it.
I must admit, I'm dissapointed.I know of single-click mode but never liked it.

Re: Single-click mode
I programmed my middle mouse button to do double-clicks. Why don't you?JustinF wrote:I dislike double-clicking as much as you dislike single-clicking...

I suppose I could...how, then, would I get hover=select to work?admin wrote:I programmed my middle mouse button to do double-clicks. Why don't you?JustinF wrote:I dislike double-clicking as much as you dislike single-clicking...

Re: Single-click mode
hover=select would not work anyway with TV3's preview-on-select, at least not smoothly.JustinF wrote:I suppose I could...how, then, would I get hover=select to work?admin wrote:I programmed my middle mouse button to do double-clicks. For what do you use hover=select? How can this scary thing be useful?
Re: Single-click mode
That's how files are selected when you turn on Windows' "single click to open an item" feature. So instead of single clicking a file to select it, you just hover your cursor over it and it gets selected. I've accepted the fact that you won't incorporate this into Tracker, but I really don't see what's so scary about it. It's just an alternate way of doing things that Microsoft (and KDE, if you use Linux) have built in as an option. It makes things more consistent, in my opinion. Menu items, buttons, apps in the taskbar, hyperlinks on webpages, the start menu, items in the start menu, etc. are all "activated" by clicking them once. But icons on the desktop and files in file managers need to be double-clicked to be "activated." Like I said, you can turn on "single click to open an item" in Windows to change that behaviour (which is what I've done), but then you have these rogue file managers that don't have that feature.admin wrote:For what do you use hover=select? And as far as TV3's preview-on-select feature, I think that would still work...when you single click on the thumbnail you get the preview, but if you single click on the file name it launches the file. Makes sense to me.

Re: Single-click mode
What I said about preview-on-select concerned the preview tab. Hovering over a list of large images will not be a pleasant experience when each file is loaded into the preview.
I tried it with Explorer (huuh!). Funny how multiselection works with CTRL and SHIFT. I admit it's mouse-finger-friendly.
Anyway, I'll stay rogue.

Ok, well thanks for listening. If you ever run out of ideas, just remember this one. You'd have one happy camper here.admin wrote:Anyway, I'll stay rogue.
